HC Ryan Day (2019 B1G Media COY)

A very good team and coach, but risk adverse, avoids conflict, etc. You can obviously see based on his post-game non-reaction that he's not the guy to step up during chaos. It's an unfair comparison in some ways, but I think of how Tressel would have reacted to that. Actually, it's not unfair, they both held the same position and should be held to the same standards.
If you are talking about Day during the fight….I totally noticed that too

He looked LOST

A team can be as tough as one can project, but in the end it comes down to the type of talent they recruit.

Which is fine, because there is no reason to fit a square peg into a round hole. Just work to their strengths.
It's NOT about physical toughness. It's NOT about recruiting talent.

Ryan Day ain't that dog. He NEVER will be. And that's why he is utterly unqualified to coach The Ohio State. He thinks it's about bark. Bark is useless because he has no bite.

The attempt to call a second consecutive timeout was about the point where I knew this shit was over. I know that’s not entirely on him to get the correct personnel in, but he is also responsible for his assistants and making sure they are effectively carrying out their duties. I’m not entirely on board with blowing the whole thing up, but the Buckeyes need change in the trenches.

LJ Sr has been in coast mode since the Bosa/Young years. JT Tuimolau was at his most effective as a freshman, and never really seemed to improve. Several other similar problems on that side of the ball. The reports of there being a rift between Knowles and LJ told me the writing has been on the wall for a bit.

Justin Frye just can’t recruit at a high enough level to keep the OL consistently stocked. He appears to have some decent coaching chops to get a decent bit out of what he has after all the injuries happened, so it’s a shame the recruiting hasn’t come along with it.

I truly believe if the Bucks retooled in the trenches, they can get to the level they need to be to consistently beat those obnoxious wanks up north.

Yeah I guess you’re right… but I suppose what I mean is we don’t have a bottom line of physicality up front. We haven’t for a long time now. Probably since JT was here really. Just so happens to line up with Ryan Day coming on board.
It's NOT about physicality. Holy shit. It's about MENTAL toughness. If you don't get that by now, then you're just as stupid as Day. The Blue knew they would win, even though they have inferior talent. WHY?

Right. Which just means a month and a half of players getting poached and recruits flipping.
As if players won't get poached and recruits won't flip after the debacle they ALL just witnessed.

Did you not see the video of Captain Jack losing his freaking mind because TCUN was planting their flag on our field *again*, and Ryan Day standing there like a dumbfounded dipshit, asking, "What happened?"

Have you read the reports? Players were going after coaches in the locker room. It spilled out into the parking lot of the WHAF.

IT'S ALREADY OVER.

After a late night, I arise thinking that an era has come to an end. The time when kids came to play for and love a college team is over. Kids will choose a team that gives them the best shot at the pros, or playing time if that isn’t an option. Change a few assistant coaches and Ohio State will remain an elite team under Day, if he can keep the money rolling in. That said, this was his big chance and he and his coaches blew The Game and he may never see money again like he got this year.

I do not believe that this Ohio State team can win a national championship, too many injuries in key positions. That’s really sad because a lot of those kids think about Ohio State just the way we used to. They gave their hearts and souls.

When I think about it, I think it is way too early to be thinking about what needs to be done. The big question in my mind is, is it the era of college football , fan expectations, or the fact that I invest so much of myself and my identity into the outcome of a game a bunch of kids play 8,500 miles awayon the banks of the Olentangy?
i've been thinking about things along the same lines... questions of a kind of one-sided allegiance (one fan to players / coaches) and identity and thousands of hours invested for what?

what i've concluded is that, for me, in my bubble, it's just about the connection to a group of other likeminded (give or take) people who share a common interest and "hobby", a way to stay connected with a place where i spent some of the best and most formative years of my life, and a way to distract myself from some of the ugly and too-serious realities of life.

and i will not concede that fun and that real sense of connection over to somebody like a ryan day, or a chip kelly, or some teenage kid, or a jimmah harbaugh or a joel klatt or whoever.
