HC Ryan Day (2019 B1G Media COY)

tOSU only has 2 wins over Baylor. Are you remembering the 35-35 tie with SMU in 1978?

I don’t think you’re old enough to be thinking of the 7-7 season opening tie with TCU in a season that ended up being named National Chsmps by the Football Writers Association of America.
Oh man, now you’re testing my memory! I swear it was Baylor and 36-36. If it was Let me get back to you on that  Story still stands though and if you’re right, I was a Junior in HS not in 7th grade. Fuuuuck

Edit: I was told there would be no live fact checking @BB73

OSU faced Baylor like in 1981 or so. Gerald “Ice Cube” McNeil, I believe, was on that Baylor team. Singletary may have been too, though I think he had left the prior year

Two observations, one minor, one major

In his comments after the game and in his presser going on as I type this, Ryan has stressed that we are “entering the back half of the season”. Having played 8 games, I like the message to the team that we expect to play 16. As a fan, I love having more football, so being in November and thinking of the season as half over is fantastic.

The major point though (to me) is his open acknowledgment that the program… not just the season, but the program was at a crossroads. To me, that suggests that there really were players who would have tapped out on the rest of the season so as to prepare for the draft if last Saturday had gone differently. That would have started a descent down a slippery slope… truly a crossroads for the program.

Honestly, up until the 4th quarter I had thought this team was already several steps down the wrong path and that it was already too late

That’s hard to admit, as I am usually one of the people saying that it is too soon to draw certain conclusions. There are a couple of units on this team that I defended this season using that argument. Even though those units vindicated that argument last Saturday, that just adds to the shame of having joined the wrong side of that argument before the final results were in

And no… the final results were not last Saturday’s performance. It’s still too early to declare certain things fixed, just as Saturday proved it was too early to call them irreparable.

The lesson here, for me this time, is to enjoy the season as it unfolds. And to let it unfold. It’s only half over after all

That was 1961. TCU had a QB who was something like 6’5”. The bucks were led by Bob Ferguson and Ike Kelly. Woody refused to pass and the crowd booed like crazy. One of the dullest games I’ve ever witnessed in the ‘shoe.

Ryan Day on McAfee Show Just Now

Watching McAfee & AJ Hawk live and they were talking to Ryan Day. They ended the conversation with Pat telling Ryan Day, "This Indiana team's the real deal, now.."
Without missing a beat, Day responds with a straight face, "Yeah so are we" and walks off.

In almost six full seasons as Ohio State’s head coach, Day has a winning percentage of .880 (66-9). That is the best winning percentage among active head coaches, with the next-best being Georgia’s Kirby Smart’s .851 (103-18). Day is 46-0 against unranked teams and 20-9 against ranked teams during his tenure. He may have losses to national-championship-winning teams like Alabama, Georgia and Michigan, but he doesn’t have losses to barely bowl-eligible teams like Oklahoma, Florida and Auburn. I think that deserves some credit! Certainly more credit than he often gets.

Oh, and while I’m here, Day has two top-five wins since people told me he couldn’t win top-five matchups after the Oregon game. As Cignetti said before the game on Saturday, people can stick that narrative up their you know what.

When they vacate a couple of those tCun wins in The Game, that won’t improve Day’s record. Vacated games still stupidly count as a loss for the other team.

He gets a raw deal because tsun cheated. People will throw out a dozen reasons they don't like him but I'd bet my paycheck that if he were undefeated against them none of those would be talked about much if at all. The ones we would talk about would be nitpicks. Frustrations. Annoyances. Like Tress and the punting and so on and so forth.

I hope he coaches here until he's 70

Especially because if he does, it’s a Saban-esque run of dominance.

I really want a rematch with the Ducks in Indy seeing as they only beat us in their house by exploiting a rule that the NCAA immediately changed after the game. First things first destroy Xichigan.
