Wilson calls plays for the next 5.
And Urban will continue to call plays in the 3 toughest.

Seems giving him play calling duties and naming him full OC was what it took to keep him around. Writing on the wall for Wilson to depart after 2018 season and Day to take over as the lone OC. I'm good with a run-game coordinator and a pass-game coordinator, but it would be really surprising if Wilson weren't giving a lot of input on the play calls.

In my opinion, Ryan Day must evidently believe in his 3 potential QBs for the upcoming season. Otherwise, he would have jumped ship while he was ahead.
Moreover, at the point where your assistants include a former NFL head coach, someone who turned down an NFL OC position and a college HQ (Day), a former college head coach, and a Broyles winner (Wilson), a Broyles semi-finalist (Day), that has got to be insanely legendary. One of them has got to be able to figure out what happened against Iowa.
I am almost starting to get my hopes up for next season.

Just so confused what this means for Kevin... such a slap in the face to him.
No way this had to be the agreement they made with him when they hired him. He's honoring his commitment and to me it feels like we aren't doing right by Kevin.
Don't particularly like this. The offense will do really well next year and of course Ryan will get all the credit.

Or Urban knows that Kevin wants to get back into being a HC and it’s probably after this year, so everybody is cool with it.

I love that the implicit assumption here is that Urban is dumb and doesn't know how to manage or communicate with his staff.
Seems to me it'd be more reasonable to assume that this was discussed at length with Kevin Wilson and they both understand exactly what this means.

How in the hell did you get that from what I said? It doesn't matter if Kevin OK'd the move. Do you really think internally Kevin was overjoyed? We could have easily communicated to Ryan Day privately that after next season he'll have full control instead of devaluing Kevin (particularly if he isn't the primary play caller). Ryan Day is a rising star no doubt but Kevin is still one of the best OC's out there.
BN27 I think is probably right... this move was made anticipating Kevin Wilson is going to be a HC after this next season.

RYAN DAY SET FOR INCREASED ROLE AS OFFENSIVE COORDINATOR, BUT INFLUENCE ON OHIO STATE'S OFFENSE WAS ALREADY SIGNIFICANT
On the surface, it looked like a changing of the guard took place for Ohio State’s offensive coaching staff on Tuesday, when quarterbacks coach Ryan Day was promoted to the role of offensive coordinator.
While Kevin Wilson is also still on staff as an offensive coordinator, Fox Sports’ Bruce Feldman reported Tuesday that Day will handle play calling – a responsibility primarily held by Wilson last season – as part of his promotion. So whereas Day was subordinate to Wilson in their first season together on staff, at least in title as a co-offensive coordinator, Day now appears to have moved ahead of Wilson in the Buckeyes’ coaching hierarchy.
In reality, though, Day’s promotion – a move made by Ohio State to show its investment in Day, one day after he reportedly turned down an opportunity to become the offensive coordinator of the NFL’s Tennessee Titans – might not change much at all in terms of how the coaching staff operates.
That’s because Day already played a big role in orchestrating Ohio State’s offense in 2017, and was already in line – even without a promotion – to play an even bigger role in 2018.
Day’s influence on Ohio State’s offense became obvious by the midpoint of last season, when the Buckeyes went on a six-game run of more than 500 yards of offense and at least 38 points. Day was specifically credited by Ohio State head coach Urban Meyer for implementing a mesh passing concept – as explained and illustrated by our Kyle Jones in this Film Study – that played a key role in the Buckeyes’ offensive success over that stretch, in which the Buckeyes threw for more than 300 yards in every game.
"Ryan Day brought us that whole package to us," Meyer said Oct. 2, two days after that package set up a 39-yard touchdown catch-and-run on a crossing route by Johnnie Dixon against Rutgers. "It's been dynamic."
Over the course of the year – as Meyer and Wilson regularly referenced Day’s work when answering questions about their offensive play calling and game planning – it became increasingly evident that Day was perhaps playing a bigger role in orchestrating the Buckeyes’ passing offense than any other coach on the staff.
