HC Ryan Day (2019 B1G Media COY)

I have to say I'm so confused with how we are handling our WRs and our offense in general from a personnel stand point.

We basically only play 2 and 5 at WR and we play 16 and 34 a good bit. We are going to continue having issues hanging onto kids at WR if we don't start getting more WRs on the field. I realize they like the blocking from the tight ends but gosh to play them over Harrison/Egbuka/Fleming?

I realize we have to call plays to score and not to make people happy but anyone else feeling anxious that our depth at WR is being grossly ignored?
Bud this is life in the big city. Dog eat dog is for real. Either kids grow mentally as they do physically and the performer rises to the top, or fade away. With the transfer portal world, college football isnt what it was; its chaos! Saban loves this shit because he's a ruthless bastard and he just plugs people in to what his vision is. Day is still working on his vision so time will tell but college football isn't for the weak when it comes to making decisions anymore. Jim Tressel would have big issues in this landscape most years though I loved him as a Buckeye.

I agree, big time football coaching isn't for the timid or weak. They have to make the tough decisions based on what is bet for the team. I don't know about Jim Tressel; however, I do think that he was a little more ruthless than you give him credit for.

Yeah I have no question that he'd still be able to manage his team the way he envisions but the portal and the NIL and recruiting differences would probably have his blood pressure sky high. I think you have to be the Devil in carnate to enjoy the route CFB is on now. Lots of health problems in store for most no doubt

Just sayin': I was really surprised that Urban Meyer got back into coaching. He was already financially set and had the "good life" on the Fox Sports' Saturday morning pre game show.

I have noticed this year which didn't seem to be last few years they are yo yoing players about in play time. And even if there are valid reasons for that players are kids. Even if they know the reason lots of them will still feel slighted by it no matter how valid which culminates in potential blowups like Pope. See the whole running back situation, some of the things with the linebackers and secondary. I know their trying out things feeling it out. But it hurts players to go from starting to barely any minutes when they feel like they have had good games on the field

I’ve had a slight pullback in optimism with Coach Day, TBH.

It’s the ambiguous and smaller things to me. I think glaring issues to “football minds” have been there in some degree from beginning, but it shows even more in how roster is being handled now.

Guy knows offense. Great guy overall. He has amazing connections in industry. It’s all there and he will continue to be successful. I hope he has an amazing soundboard who can give him honest feedback on some things.

I respect the move of Barnes to DC (essentially). I respect the move of giving Stoud a game off. I’m a bit worried about some things I’m hearing from team morale standpoint in locker room and some “red line” type stuff that would prob be divisive among fanbase.

I’ll leave it at this….nobody questions Day’s football IQ. I think there’s concern about a divisive locker room at moment. It’s a weird time in everyone’s lives. I think most players feel supported while others feel like they’re on an island. It’s created some tension….

And I’d say…..just cause u see a guy playing now that wasn’t before….doesn’t mean he’s happy. It may mean he felt forced into something he didn’t want to do.
Things feel off for me too... although I feel the main issue is the ambiguity when it comes to the depth chart (fractionally the injury report). I sense it's going away now so I'm not sure what to think but I just think the staff had a really hard time evaluating the kids this year.

You have to put the best 11 on each side of the ball and I finally think we've figured that out.

I think, people are thinking, way too hard into why certain guys played or didn’t play.

There’s kind of an obvious answer.

A lot of the team isn’t super happy how it all went down…..from what I’m told.

Guys on team have been super supportive of other guys on team with differing views (please read between lines). School/team made that said choice, less of a choice. And here we are.

To be fair, I think it’s been less of a coaching decision and more of an administration policy. From what I’m told, there’s still a few guys holding out, and some frustration with the rules, but guys have come around to idea it’s not squarely on Day/coaching staff. The guys still holding out prob won’t register on most people’s radar.

I can’t wait for this shit to be over.
If that's the case then fuck anyone who's made this hard on our players.

Forgetting all of that... finally we are getting answers to who our best players are (particularly on defense) but it shouldn't be ignored we are finding out our best players on offense too. I've been plenty vocal but should Stover see x2 or x3 the snaps of Egbuka or Harrison? Laughably absolutely not.

Certain packages are understood to block... put heavy players on and so will the defense. So IMO there's no difference...

IMO we are attempting to find out our best offensive players too.

What I don't understand is the surprise that there could be some resentment about playing time from some players that might normally have gone with the glow. Consider that you are a 3rd year player. When you were recruited, there was no additional financial support of any kind. Now, you see some kid come in and get a couple of million in support without ever throwing a football. Others are getting great wheels. What is Ohio State doing to get you paid now? You waited. You were patient. Where the hell is your payday?

I can't imagine how anyone can't think that NIL is a substantive negative issue for kids who are getting nothing, especially when some are getting financial support now and you see your dream of playing in the pros evaporating. Ryan Day is managing his way through a transition in college football that his predecessors did not have to manage.

Having been critical of Coach Day I want to acknowledge the fact that he said there would be changes, changes were made, and the results are improving. Coombs may still have the title but he's obviously not running the defensive show now, and players who were underperforming have lost playing time (regardless of their class level).

Bring on the Twerps.
