HC Ryan Day (2019 B1G Media COY)

I agree there are plenty of reasons Day could give that would make sense and I would probably agree with. Maybe he thinks by not addressing it he maintains some advantage of the unknown. But you're not going to whip that play out with a freshman QB for the first time late in the season/playoffs when he has to read NFL talent. Maybe Stroud doesn't have the ability to run that play successfully based off what he's shown in practice, but you don't even have to say that. Just say we don't want to put our QB at risk for unnecessary hits and the fans asking for that play can get fucked. Whatever. It just irritated me to read Day's nonanswer. Maybe the reporter asking Day about it screwed up the question and I'm just being a fucktard over it.

Then you must've really loved Tressel's press conferences

That's precisely the point... there are reasons, but I don't think there are many / any that Day would actually give.

Looks like you're wrong per 11W:

Day said he usually shies away from designed quarterback runs. "When you start doing too many of those things, you put your quarterback at risk. And you don't want to get your quarterback hurt."

Nice to see Coach Day isn't as pussy about this topic as many here would have me believe.

I think they're trying to avoid putting him in a position where he could get banged up and hurt...

Well I'll be... if 11W says it, then it must be true.

Not grading out as a champion lately

Agreed - sometimes the obvious answer is...the obvious answer. Too many play callers want to out smart everyone......unbalanced play calling today. He was able to escape, hopefully he learns from this and allows the run game to set the table from here on out and not the other way around.

I think we tend to forget that we have a young team with a young HC at the helm. Sure he has a number of vets around him, but he still steers the ship and is seeing some things for the 1st time.

I think Ryan should give Wilson more playcalling flexibility. I seem to recall in 2018 the Offense became more dynamic when they became more unpredictable. You can much easier predict what one guy will do based on tendencies so Coach Day should get more input from Wilson during drives. If he's already doing that, maybe consider a different approach. The talent is there without a doubt but it's a clusterfuck way too often during games.

Many great coaches don't like answering everything at times. Remember a few years ago when Saban snapped at that reporter in a live interview to quit asking him about the qb situation?

Kirby is always setting up a PR funhouse of mirrors regarding injury/availability updates. He does so too with the qb situation.

It can be frustrating, but it's not something unique to Day.

In the grand scheme, Day is a tremendous young coach. I'm absolutely convinced that in the upcoming decade, "Kirby vs Day" is going to replace "Saban vs Urban" as the two elite coaches competing head-to-head for championships every year..
