HC Ryan Day (2019 B1G Media COY)

RYAN DAY NAMED GEORGE MUNGER COLLEGIATE COACH OF THE YEAR FINALIST

The first-year Ohio State coach is one of six finalists for the George Munger Collegiate Coach of the Year Award, joining LSU's Ed Orgeron, Clemson's Dabo Swinney; Oklahoma's Lincoln Riley, Baylor's Matt Rhule and Minnesota's P.J. Fleck.

In his first season as a full-time head coach, Day has led the Buckeyes to a perfect 13-0 record including a Big Ten Championship and Ohio State's first College Football Playoff appearance since 2016.

This season, Day's Buckeyes have been one arguably the most dominant team in the country, leading the nation in scoring margin with an average margin of victory of 36.2 points per game. Ohio State hasn't played a game closer than 11 points and has played just two games with scores closer than 24 points – all while notching victories against current top-25 opponents five times.

Voting for the award opens on Tuesday, and eligible voters include NCAA Bowl Subdivision head coaches and football sports information directors, Maxwell Football Club members and selected national media.

The winner will be announced on Jan. 3 with the award formally presented on March 6.

In addition to Stroud on Thursday, Day also made in-home visits with two other Californian’s on Wednesday. He first visited with Ohio State cornerbacks commitment Clark Phillips from La Habra (Calif.) and then visited Ohio State ‘bullet’ position
commitment Kourt Williams on Wednesday night. Day also visited Ohio State quarterback commitment Jack Miller from Scottsdale (Ariz.) Chaparral on Wednesday in what was a very important West Coast recruiting trip for Day and the Buckeyes.

Phillips and Williams are very important parts of the Buckeyes’ No. 4 ranked recruiting class in the 247Sports Composite team recruiting rankings.

The power of the pep talk: How to deliver a message that moves
December 2019

Pep talks — and their big brother, the motivational speech — can drive people to do the seemingly impossible: win brutal battles, love old enemies, rethink deeply held beliefs. Occasionally, they help a scrappy team of underdogs pull off an upset on the football field.

Or, well, continue to dominate. Here's Buckeyes Coach Ryan Day attempting something tricky — amping up his Goliath of a team. (The Davids usually get the stirring speeches.)
