HC Ryan Day (2019 B1G Media COY)

Just saw that it's the 1st time in 40 years (Earle Bruce) that an OSU coach has won COY award in the B1G. That is such a joke. No Tress and no Urban? SHAMEFUL

I wasn't expecting it this year either. Figured they would give it to P.J. bc it's a feel good story for an overachieving team that won 10 games. Probably would have had they knocked off Wisconsin and made it to Indy.

I understand, looking at it on a year to year basis, that it’s tough for an OSU coach to win COY based off already high expectations and other coaches taking teams to higher heights compared to their respective teams’ expectations to start the year. OSU is always expected to be great to dominant. There is always someone who does a lot with little. But to think that an OSU coach hadn’t won it in 40 years? It’s downright shameful.

JT getting snubbed in 2002 is the most egregious. Took over a program in shambles, had a so-so 7-5 team in year one and improves to 14-0 (first ever 14-0 team) and wins a NC. Yes, the award is given before the bowls, but we were 13-0 and had spent a month as the #2 team in the country. It was horseshit. Pretty much any season after that, tOSU coaches were a victim of already high expectations.

Going back to 2011, when these awards were created, no OSU player has been awarded any of the following BigTen's best positional player awards:

Tatum–Woodson Defensive Back of the Year (surprisingly)
Butkus–Fitzgerald Linebacker of the Year
Richter–Howard Receiver of the Year
Bakken–Andersen Kicker of the Year
Kwalick–Clark Tight End of the Year (not surprisingly).

College football first-year coach grades: Ohio State's Ryan Day aces test, Miami's Manny Diaz fails

How did the FBS college football coaches that took new jobs perform in 2019?

The 2019 regular season is in the books, and several rookie coaches made their first impressions on the college football world. From Ryan Day at Ohio State to Manny Diaz at Miami and everyone in between, coaches laid the groundwork for the future of their respective programs throughout the fall.

Some were successful ... and others were not. Some led their teams to bowl games ... and others fell just short. But the process is still ongoing, potentially with better days on the horizon for some. Others could be a flash in the pan at their programs with the bottom set to fall out by the time Year 2 rolls around next summer.

Let's grade the first-year coaches from 2019 based solely on their performance this season.

OHIO STATE
Ryan Day 12-0 Day aced his first test. If we could give out something more than an A+, he would get it. A+

Unpossible. They're just trying to trick us going into the CCG. Im not falling for it.

Give him a raise with incentives for sticking around the next 5-10 years with an escalated base and bonuses should he continue to be bad ass. And give Hafley, Hartline and Johnson double what they are currently getting please.

Just occurred to me...

The last OSU coy went to Earle Bruce in his first year on the job.

Congratulations CRD, you struck while the iron was hot, but nowhere does the iron cool faster than at Ohio State. You can win coy in your first year if you’re following a legend. Apparently there are no other circumstances where it’s possible.
