HC Ryan Day (2019 B1G Media COY)

Honestly, it may not even be losing to THAT team (it is). But I almost think any coach needs fired for the malpractice that was that gameplan.

And to come out for the second 30 minutes and do the same thing. I’m so fucking pissed about that offense. What did they do all week?

I’m floating in the wind. Dunno where Ohio State goes from here. It was not supposed to be this way today.
Feels eerily familiar

The way I see it we have three choices and three possible outcomes
-do nothing:bad
-change: do worse
-change: do better

Standing pat is a bad outcome, making a change is 50/50…and people don’t want to take a chance at good. That’s not smart.

The devil you know isn’t actually better than the devil you don’t know.

But it's not 50/50. The odds of doing worse are far higher than hiring someone that wins the game, 60% of their top five matchups, and NCs. Fire him but they need a home run replacement immediately.

Pounding his chest about toughness and trying to do things that way showed he had no sense of identity. Hell, if we had lost throwing it all over the yard then at least he would have went down on his terms. Instead he internalized Harbaugh’s comments and tried to be the prototypical B10 head coach which he didn’t have to be. Played right into their hands for four years and played himself out of a job here and into a Cooper-esque legacy. His comments post game also made it clear he didn’t learn a damn thing the past 4 years.

Yet it was. I was at the game and the wind definitely hurt the long ball threat for us in quarters 2 and 4. Yet we didn’t take advantage of it in q1 and q3. Strange. Where was Jelani Thurman ? The one option pitch outside went for 7 yards. It was wide open. Our WR weren’t blocking well either…..which is why our RBs never got to the 3rd level. It was just a shit show on offense across the board.

Accuracy is important in a QB…..but so is arm strength and scrambling ability. Howard is usually accurate but average in the other 2. He was bad in all 3 today. He got hit hard a couple times then threw the pick near 6. Wasn’t the same after that .

Day relies on an NFL talented QB to win games. We are cooked .

Day got it to 4 th qtr with a chance to win. Game plan accomplished. He laid it out to Holly Rowe on the field before kick off.
I heard him says this too. Even commented on the game thread about it as we got to the fourth. What I really want yo hear is that our goal is to crush them early and put them away. It’s a fucking mindset!

You, me or anyone else on earth knows what the odds of the replacement being better or worse are.

The decision is stand pat or take the risk of change. That’s it.

There is at least some chance of upside to a change. Standing pat is guaranteed bad outcome.

You don’t stand pat and drown for sure if there was a chance of swimming out.

Here's the thing.

Most fans want Day fired because of the narratives and the results. And those speak for themselves.

But I want him fired for more than that. I want him fired because he consistently shrinks in the biggest moments of the biggest games.

I just watched the replay. Forget everything before that for a second. We had a 4th and 1 from our own 20 yard line with 7 minutes left. Conventional, old school thought says to punt that ball.

But I wanted to go for it. Why? Because I knew, in the worst case scenario, we don't get the first down and Michigan scores...BUT, we have a shitload of time left. The time wouldn't even be a concern at this point. It's solely on us and our execution.

But what happens? Day punts, Michigan milks clock and and we get the ball back down 3 with 40 seconds left.

Go look at my posts after the Oregon game. This keeps happening at the end of all of these big games.

This isn't a pattern or a trend anymore. This is reality. Ryan Day does not understand clock management and end of game situations and that alone is why Ohio State should move on from him. I would add a caveat but there is no need, he is never winning a National Championship because of how he handles these late game situations.
Valid reasons for wanting to start over IMO. In hindsight yeah we needed to go for it there but the defense is pretty good and TCUN hadn’t done a ton all day. I’m ok with the punt there though in the moment. There was like 7 minutes left once we punted so there’s no reason why we couldn’t get a stop there. Never mind then giving up 35 yard run and then giving them another first down because of too many men on the field.
I think that’s a fair question.

Something has been off with the leadership of this program for a few years now. I loved having all these guys come back, but maybe the core of the program is rotted out as well?? Some guys have flashed at times but the overall play has been so underwhelming…..

It’s kinda crazy…Michigan was spectacular last year largely built on late rd draft picks and UDFA’s that wanted to finish their college careers out on a championship caliber team.

We returned 1st rd talent across the board, largely using NIL $$$ and you’d have to say the ROI for this season has been terrible…..we haven’t played a clean game all year, have no team identity, and just feel stuck in the mud.

I’m not going to lie, while I appreciate the defensive effort of this team, I’m looking forward to new blood/new talent coming to the forefront. Other than Jack Sawyer, I’ve been pretty underwhelmed with the leadership from the upperclassmen on this team. JMO…..and the loss of Seth McClaughlin was massive…..but it kinda sucks we needed to infuse that leadership to begin with.
I totally agree. This large senior class has been a great representative for the school but we sorely need to purge the program of the individuals who know nothing but loss to these guys.

Also can we stop celebrating after every single fucking play? Seriously every time we get up and do our little dances. Jesus just get back in position.
