HC Ryan Day (2019 B1G Media COY)

https://lettermenrow.com/ohio-state...eyes-ryan-day-football-offensive-coordinator/

Multiple sources have indicated to Lettermen Row that Oklahoma State offensive coordinator Mike Yurcich is a name to watch for the Buckeyes once the Rose Bowl is in the rearview mirror and Day gets to work on putting his imprint on the staff.

I’m not sure what to think. NE Ohio guy, prolific offenses, but in the Big 12 so does it count? And Cowboy fans reportedly hate his play calling and will be glad to see him leave.

It’s to fill the spot Day is vacating. So he might keep the co-coordinator tag or maybe Wilson is out. Presumably Day would have a pretty good idea of if he can work with or wants to work with Wilson moving forward.
To talk to myself- if he’s being brought in mostly to develop QBs I’d be much more enthusiastic about that. It’s hard to envision Yurcich making the move to not call plays, but with Day and potentially Wilson around who knows how the responsibilities might break down.

I immediately thought that it was a sign that Wilson was on his way out as well. I think that I saw something on 11W that suggested it was exactly what you are suggesting with the co-coordinator role.

What we have to remember is perhaps Kevin moves on in a year or two? Yurcich could be convinced with that.

He's with the wrong OSU.

Yurcich would make the move if it meant more money and a chance to be closer to his family. Tennessee is also considering him and they surely have a ton of money to offer as well.

So assuming Studrawa is gone and Yurcich is in:

Day - HC/call plays
Zurcich - QB/co-offensive coordinator
Wilson - OL/TE/ co-offensive coordinator
Alford - RB
Hartline - WR

Having Wilson take over OL (which is his background) frees up a coaching spot, which I think Day should use to get a guy to apprentice behind Larry Johnson to 1) learn from and eventually replace him and 2) put a damper on the “Larry Johnson is retiring” negative recruiting while setting up a smooth and hopefully successful transition.

The defensive staff changes seem like they will be more drastic and much harder to predict.

I look forward to these decisions being finalized sooner rather than later after Tuesday.
