HC Ryan Day (2019 B1G Media COY)

Probably would've lost against Florida State for sure but that team was stacked talent wise, Mich St not so much, although it was a very competent team coached by a good football coach. But you're 100 % right that defense was broken. So broken in fact that they managed to successfully exploit it in that CCG.

2012 we probably would have lost it in the National Championship game as well even if we weren't bowl banned.
Notre Dame was not beating us

Jameis should thank the lobster gods that ND threw endless flags vs sparty. that Sparty defense would have broken him, much like Oregon did a year later.

instead he played room temperature Auburn.

#2 team in the country falls to #3 on the road, at night, by 1. Drops all the way to #4. Still have a chance to achieve all of the stated pre-season goals. Beat tcun. Win the B1G. Win the national championship.
FIRE DAY!
We have officially become Bucknuts.
Would some different decisions made during the last drive have won it? Possibly. Would running it every play in the last 45 seconds have set up a field goal attempt? Possibly. Think holding instead of OPI. Think blocked kick. Think wide left. Think a myriad of other possibilities both positive and negative throughout the 60 minutes. There are no guarantees, except the guarantee that anything other than a convincing win would have left some fans upset.
I could go on until TL;DR with possibilities but we still are fortunate enough to have a coach that basically any school in the country would be thrilled with.
In the immortal words of Don Henley. get over it.

I'm definitely not saying fire him. But he is on thin ice and beating PSU and ttun would help get him off thin ice. But without both of those wins and no more losses before the playoffs, lets be honest...Day is toast and I say that not wanting to say it.

But specific to that last minute, I'm not playing Sunday QB (Monday QB though). I really cannot forgive how that last drive was managed. Day and his staff had all the time and information available to not do what they did. I said it in another thread, but raw talent got them down to a position where the coaches just had to be smarter. Run it a couple of times and if the kicker misses, so be it.

Really that is my issue with Day and again, not saying fire him or that I have someone better lined up. But he needs to be much more alert of situations when the big games are on the line, and his key support staff like Chip. The issues there ultimately lie with the HC, so fair or wrong he just needs to get it done there.
