HC Ryan Day (2019 B1G Media COY)

Why would I do that ?

If you want to roll with Coach Day to deliver us a win over SCUM or a BIG Championship or even a NC that's fine. I'm taking the field in this .... Someone other then Day will accomplish these thing for OSU before he does.

So you're going to openly cheer against Ohio State next year and likely the year after? Is that what this is supposed to read like?

Bigger points to being the OC are play design, yes play calling, but also putting the right parts in the right places.

I seriously doubt Hartline is doing that...he has the OC title because of his recruiting success in the WR room.
Exactly. He was given the title in order to give him more money. Nothing wrong with that, but the title is somewhat misleading.

Of course not.

My response was ... "Why would I do that ?" was to BN27's bait of .... Actually, you can do more than just sit back. You can join the growing hoard of people openly rooting for losses!

Just because I'm losing faith in Coach Day being the right guy doesn't mean I am now rooting against the team. That's just silly ....

I think plenty would - many schools prefer their HC to not call plays and to act as CEO. We obviously know Hartline can recruit, and I would imagine he'd be able to mingle and fundraise with the best of them (one of the many important HC duties).

The idea that a HC needs to be a great play caller to be a coach is off to me.
And as a CEO type coach he would have to have the administrative and organizational skills required to be effective. When has he shown that he has that? As an AD or President of a University, would you hire someone who to be your Head Coach who hasn't shown that, but is a good recruiter and position coach. Hartline still needs time to prove he has that. And honestly, his lack of willingness to rotate guys, causing us to lose more of those highly ranked recruits than we've kept ( the stat was posted elsewhere here that out of 21 4 and 5 stars he has brought to OSU, all but 10 have transferred out or changed position) is cause for concern.

The way people have fucked the English language on social media could we shorten "growing hoard" into a "gwoard"? It sounds cooler, requires fewer characters and you could probably make a cool emoji for it.

Hell, why not join a gwoard? I bet they serve a good lunch spread at their meetings.

How many sure things are there in the coaching world? Just because someone hasn't shown it yet, doesn't mean they don't have it yet. And when you're the best recruiter in the country, that lends you some leeway in the other areas. He's not just a good recruiter....he's the best.
Is a short WR rotation going to be the reason why he doesn't get an OC gig, or a HC gig for a team willing to take a chance? I highly doubt that. Every single candidate has their flaws and if that is most of his I think you can live with that.
The reality is Hartline masks some weaknesses on this staff recruiting wise that would show up quite quickly if he were to leave tomorrow.

Serious question. Who is going to hire Hartline as a HC anytime soon? Let's be realistic here, I think it's pretty obvious that despite his official title he has little to do with actual play calling. We are seeing the same play calls we've seen during Day's whole tenure. Hartline is a great WR coach and recruiter, but if he IS responsible for calling plays right now, well, he needs a lot of work. How many schools are going to hire a guy who is basically a position coach as a Head Coach?
Problem with Hartline is like you and @Mike80 said, Hartline was promoted mainly due to his recruiting and his room having immense talent. But an OC needs to not only know how to call plays, but know blocking schemes, he needs to also be working with the running game, and overseeing the entire offense. I think Hartline is a positional coach with a fancy title. Similar to LJsr.
Something needs to be done about LJsr. Knowles is on the cusp of building a fighting force of extraordinary magnitude, and he doesn't need one of his position coaches going rogue. And calling him asst head coach is fucking absurd from an organizational standpoint when he's a position coach amd not a coordinator. It leads to shit like we're witnessing between he and Knowles.
I think Urban gave him that title when he coached a game while he was suspended during the ZS scandal. But it seems to have gone to his head, and Im starting to think he also had an ego problem at Ped St after getting passed over when Paterno died. I thought LJsr coming to OSU would make this position his swan song. But tbh, if I’m Day I don’t want him even as an analyst if he’s let go. Break free cleanly, hire a new, young DL coach whose style aligns with Knowles. We can’t have an old bull standing in the way of a dominant defense

I won’t lie. I got real close to this point in 2000 with Cooper. Ryan Day is building towards that type of vitriol with me.
You need to let that go man. It's not healthy over a damn game.

When Day clearly loses control of the program and producing 6-6 seasons let me know.

What our expectations are and what reality within the WHAC is aren't going to be the same, and carrying vitriol at that level ain't worth it. The expectations are likely to be refreshed once the new AD is installed, so I'd personally recommend letting it ride since there are clear issues for him to fix. If he does, great. If not, the new AD will likely want his own guy in there anyway.

Not close to being the top recruiter in the country. According to 247, he ranked #27, not even the top Buckeye recruiter. Tim Walton ranked #26.

You're looking at one year on one site that gives points to recruiters for quantity and based off of their ratings....
By this logic, you believe Donovan Raiola, Terry Smith, Phil Trautwein, Junior Adams and Tim Walton are all better recruiters than Hartline?!
Come on man....dude just held off the state of Florida and went coast to coast on the top WR this decade, plucked 5 stars out of Washington, etc. etc. etc.

He IS the best recruiter in the country. When he's the primary, there is no one else more feared than Hartline for other schools.

It wasn't a bait. People are actually doing that.
