HC Ryan Day (2019 B1G Media COY)

I'm not underestimating Ohio State's fan base. I just know there's a lot of stupid money in places like Los Angeles. Oklahoma and Alabama (in time) are going to feel the pinch. Thankfully, Columbus continues to grow and OSU has a large fan base.

But California produces a lot of football talent, and it's going to be harder to get the next CJ Stroud or Bryce Young to leave there now.

Population of Columbus is 900k, which to add some context and perspective is 25% greater than Cleveland and Cincinnati combined. The Greater Columbus Metro covers 2.13m people. You could throw a rock from campus and hit one of more than a dozen different Fortune 1000 company HQs. These business connections are exactly what makes OSU Real Life Wednesday/Job Fair a massive success that other schools have tried to emulate, but can't. At least not with the breadth of opportunities and corporate representation Ohio State routinely puts together. There is no lack of deep-pocketed stupid-money donors in Columbus.

I agree with everything you've stated. But the thing is, OSU also has one of the(if not THE) biggest alumni bases in the country to draw donors from as well. Some of these other schools don't have that at all. Most of the Texas schools, their fan bases mostly live in TX Same goes for most of the SEC schools, Bama and Aubun fans live in Bama, LSU fans in LA, and so on. USC and Miami have large fan bases all over, but most could care less about football. And that's what also makes OSU so much different and in a better spot for NIL over the long run.

College football's likeliest coaches to win first national championship, ranked

1. RYAN DAY, OHIO STATE

Why would Ryan Day entertain NFL murmurs when he may have the best team in college football entering the 2022 season? Here's a coach equipped to win his first national championship this fall at Ohio State, a program that has not missed a beat under his guidance since he took over from Urban Meyer. Day is recruiting at an elite level, especially at the skill positions, and proved this coaching cycle that he could go out and get a coordinator many programs coveted in Jim Knowles from Oklahoma State. It was a big-boy move for Day, who is trying to ascend to Kirby Smart-caliber respect with his first title.

Marcus Freeman's doing a lot of jibber-jabbering about academics, and I don't want this just buried in his thread. Coach Day deserves some recognition.

When I saw football included in the list of sports with a perfect APR, I wondered if it was a typo.

It’s very impressive to accomplish that in a sport with 85 scholarships.

Ranking Big Ten football coaches heading into 2022

1. Ryan Day, Ohio State

USATSI_18103011.jpg

Ohio State Buckeyes head coach Ryan Day watches during the spring football game at Ohio Stadium in Columbus on April 16, 2022.

Reason for the Ranking
It’s absurd at this point to not have Ryan Day as the top coach in the league. He has the best winning percentage, most wins, most Big Ten titles, most College Football Playoff appearances, most College Football Playoff wins, a high APR score, recruits better than any other coach in the league, and has championed some great causes off-the-field. That all speaks for itself. The only thing holding him back is the lack of a national title. Here’s hoping that comes this season.

I think the perception tOSU was “soft” last year has stuck in his craw.

I don’t think it’s coincidence we saw so much double TE packages and plays where our QB lined up center.

We are going to be far more balanced and look a bit different in terms of formations IMO.

And I think it’s going to be fantastic.
Not just Ryan Days craw, but Coach Mick too. We’ve been bombarded with off season training videos over the last decade of guys doing mat drills and tug of war and circle drills and such; a lot of hootin’ and hollering’. Don’t think I’ve seen a single video of ‘business as usual’ this off-season come out of the WHAC. Complete and total radio silence.
