HC Ryan Day (2019 B1G Media COY)

The fallout would be in recruiting more than short term, on the field results.
Absolutely. One would assume much of the 2019/20 class that is currently committed would immediately become free-game. But, as we saw in 2011/12, recovery can occur very swiftly once you re-orient yourself. Ohio State is bigger than a coach, and if the right guys are put in place, it can recover very quickly.

I initially liked the idea of Schiano but understand the placement of Day.

My only concern with him, and it's a significant one, is the same I had with Weiss at ND, a lack of HC experience.

Being a head coach at a place like OSU or ND is a major, major change from being a coordinator anywhere.

Someone give me sone recent examples of successful transitions to major CFB head coach from coordinator and talk me back off the ledge. Please.

Thanks

Lincoln Riley last year was my first thought.

Well, Lincoln Riley. A lot of parallels there with Day. But that's a one year sample-size, so we'll see how he does long term.

I'll take it

thanks
Kirby Smart
Dabo was a first time HC, but he took a few years to get going and was a biscuit from the hot seat until he hired Chad Morris
David Shaw at Stanford
Jimbo Fisher
Mike Gundy
Chip Kelly

So actually there's a few. Shaw, Gundy and Kelly were all at schools much lower on the totem poll than tOSU.

Smart jumped into a frying pan at UGA and had an iffy first year, but got to the Championship game in year two.

Jimbo has much more coordinator experience than Day, and may have been the de facto HC at FSU for a couple of years before officially taking over.

Maybe I’m wearing some dark Scarlet colored glasses, but I don’t see Day as the HC this season as a bad thing. I certainly see it being better than when Fickell was the HC. Our Assts are far superior to what we had in 2011, and the talent overall is just better across the board. I could see Day getting 9 wins and pushing for winning the B1G east in short notice as a real scenario

It's possible they could lose to someone else of course but it seems to really 3 games that they would possibly be in trouble in. Penn State, Sparty and scUM. 9 wins is very likely and theyd have a good chance to win at least 1 of those 3.

Mine are darker then. Dude has the best opportunity to become a legend any first year HC has ever had IMO. If he can handle the pressure of it all this could be really fun. Of course that's if he in fact does remain the HC for the season. Everything is wide open IMO. Two RB's that can put 1K up. A QB that can air it out. A defense that damn well should be able to stop people. An incredible supporting staff...as far as coaching and player talent that is.

Not to mention, I think you will see a team playing angry, with a GIANT chip on their shoulders.
Urban always says he wants an angry team, I can see this group getting downright midevil( mis-spelling intentional) on some people.

scorched. earth.

I didn't want to go that far(on public record), but in my mind I was thinking similar. Without Urban at times to put some conservative restraints on the offense, I could see Day and Wilson going for broke at certain times that Urban may have played it a little safer. I can certainly see a parallel between Riley last year andDay this year. The way that both got to their HC positions is certainly different, but both were seen as not ready for the spotlight but had great assistants to aid them

The optics would be really bad though.
I am not sure. I mean, a lot of that has blown over and we're primed to be on high alert. Just the same, Ohio State clicks seem to move the meter, so the optics are, no doubt, a significant issue.

Which... I was trying to find a spot on Urban's thread... if this was Tuscaloosa they'd close up shoppe.. the fan base would shut their mouths...and in a couple weeks Nick Saban would kick the shit out of some also ran.... and no one would give a good goddamn
