HB Dontre 'DeSoto' Wilson (Official Thread)

Seriously? Are you guys really having this conversation? I cannot wait to revisit page 39 of this thread in late November, so I can quote the idiotic things that were said about Dontre when he explodes. You do realize that he's a true freshman, right? You do realize that Meyer has thrown a ton on his plate? He plays like a blazer who is thinking a lot. Ginn made his mark early on with punts and end arounds...not much thinking. Run, Forest, run. Dontre is actually being integrated into the whole offense. Ginn returned punts....Dontre doesn't. They ran him on end arounds, out passes and bombs. He returned punts better than any player that I've ever seen...probably one of the all time greats. He wasn't a complete player either....and never really developed into one as his college career progressed. He was just a burner.

Wilson has the opportunity to become a much better complete player than Ginn ever was. He has a chance to affect every play. I don't want anyone to construe this as a slam on Ginn, because he is in my tops for the Tressel era. I just want some of those involved in this conversation to slow down the comparisons on speed, because it's all just a part of the learning process. I think the light is clicking on for Wilson and he's about to take the college football scene by storm in November. If I'm wrong, I'll admit it. I will also leave plenty of room on the bandwagon for those who are saying that Wilson looks slow when he gets rolling, because we're all Buckeye fans in the end.

Preach!

Love the threat that this kid represents when he is on the field this year. He still doesn't quite have the field vision or ability to break tackles to make him a complete player. Plus, his blocking is a work in progress. However, like UFM said earlier this year, just wait until we can get him on an off season strength program. I think that will rectify the blocking and tackle-breaking issues. With that being said, he is a helluva player and a homerun threat whenever he is on the field. Having this kid coming off the bench as a true freshman really does demonstrate the embarassment of riches that UFM has brought in to the program

I guess I missed the part where anything negative was really said about Dontre's performance so far? My impression was that posters know Dontre is a burner and with work on his stride, he will be even faster. Not sure how that qualifies as "idiotic."

There wasn't anything negative said. There were simply comments that weren't 100% positive... which can be seen as idiotic. You're either all in or an idiot. It's easy to throw around insults to posts when you know you're in the majority. When someone posts something potentially unpopular, it's totally fair game to revert to name calling... It's the unwritten rule here that I've heard refered to as the Milirule. Not sure why.

Furthermore, there's no thinking involved with racing a guy to the corner. Dontre has very good not great speed at this point. There are things he can improve about his running motion, but for now, he is quicker than he is fast.

Looks like his running motion/mechanics have definitely improved. Can't wait to see what the future holds for Dontre...
