HB Dontre 'DeSoto' Wilson (Official Thread)

I think Samuel is the most explosive. And Jalin and dontre look about the same. All 5 of the guys mentioned are explosive my only thing with Devin is that he disappears a lot. It's either big play or nothing, no intermediate stuff.

Agreed, Devin is all or nothing. Still needs to find consistency on getting open. He's big play ability will keep him on the field, but I could tell JT was trying to find Mike Thomas, as I think he's a more polished WR than Smith. Dontre beng used in so many facets, Special Teams, rushing and receiving makes him the most dangerous. JT keyed on him quite a few times, I wished he would've caught the one he dove for, but you can't have them all

Ted Ginn, jr, Lenny Willis, and Dean Sensanbaugher hold the Ohio State career record for most kick off returns for a TD (2)

Just sayin': Wilson has three more season of eligibility; if he stays all three years, it wouldn't surprise me at all if he ends up breaking both records.

Also, in case you wondered, the Ohio State season records are 1) most punt return TDs (4, Ginn, jr) and 2) most KO return TDs (2, Willis)

I don't think Dontre looks the same whatsoever. Last year, he was quick and slippery but his speed was greatly overrated. This offseason, there was a lot of chatter about his physical maturation, improving his stride and the "stompy" running style seems to be gone. He seemed a lot more explosive to me. Now we need to see it against BCS level talent to be sure, but I thought he took a big step forward with his offseason training (and not just in terms of strength)

Didn't say he's the same, just the same type of runner as Marshall. He's physically more mature this year but he's still not stout enough to carry a RBs worth of carries between the tackles. Marshall and dontre can run inside but the majority of their damage will be on the perimeter because they are great in space and are still the slot receiver build. Wilson is a great slot receiver and will make some YAC's this year. Samuel will thicken out some more but I think he's within 5 to 10 lbs. of his optimal weight. Wilson's stride has become much better and he looks more explosive. The big plays are coming.

Totally agree. In the PSU game last year he was run down by the freakin' kicker (who had a slight angle, but not much) on a kickoff. He looks way faster this year....the way he blew threw the line on the second-half run where he almost scored was impressive. I do think he's a little tentative on kickoff returns, though...

No way was he "run down" by the kicker on this play--Usain Bolt himself wouldn't have been able to overcome that angle/head start.

I'd be shocked if he even gets close. Wilson is fast, but Teddy Ginn was on a completely different level on the football field.

I've only watched that return about 20 times. Guarantee you Teddy Ginn would not have been caught. But, feel free to disagree...

Bring Teddy Ginn into the conversation if you want, but it doesn't change the fact that Wilson wasn't "run down by the freakin' kicker." The kicker had the angle on him and was creating even more of an angle by running backwards. The kicker would've tackled Ginn as well (and still neither Ginn nor Wilson would "have been caught" given the facts--the kicker didn't run anyone down).
