Greg Schiano (HC Rutgers Scarlet Knights)

Let's assume Schiano finds his job, and Grinch finds success here with silver bullets.
Is he satisfied being a great DC? Some guys are... but most of the brilliant young coaches Meyer attracts have that ambition... chose Meyer specifically because of his success grooming coordinators into head coaches.

It's not far out to think we could be in the market for a DC 3 years from now.
Grinch is from right outside Columbus, played at Mt Union, and loves Ohio State. All of his coaching experience so far has been on the defensive side (secondary and coordinator). If Grinch turns out to be a great DC, I can see him as a Brent Venables type in that he could stay as a DC at a school (tOSU in this case) for quite a while (Venables was DC at Oklahoma from 2004-2011, then Clemson 2012-present, with the only reason that he left OU was Bob Stoops was returning as DC). If Sciano were to leave and Grinch assumed full DC authority, I wouldn't be worried about getting a new DC for a while, provided Grinch is successful here.

Fickell loves Ohio State... is he still here? Grinch is a young up and comer... there are guys who enjoy being s great coordinator or position guy.
Neither of us know what Grinch' career goals are.
And it's always best to be prepared. Freeman is an intriguing option in the future... get him in and see what he's made of. Assistant coaching turnover is neverending.

Freeman is an interesting prospect for the future, but not now. Let Grinch run the show and pursue Freeman in a few years if Grinch leaves. Bring in Washington for the LBs and let Grinch be the main DC.

By that time, Freeman will be somewhere else. Maybe even a HC at some Mid Major.
If you don't take guys when they're there, they're going to move on with somebody else.
I'd be happy with Williams too, though. But you dont hire the next DC 3 years from now... unless we can orchestrate that Schiano-Ash trade.

I hear you, but we need to see what Grinch can do when he has the keys to the defense. And idk if Freeman wants to come here to be co-DC/LB coach. Idk, maybe he does, but the whole co-coordinators thing can get muddled if both aren't on the same page

Potential curveball

Somehow, someway, some of the board at Temple is pushing for interim head coach Ed Foley to be promoted. Some pushing against this as it'd be a wet blanket hire, fan base would be strongly against. Foley wasn't talked about previously but wondering if this is maybe because they got burned w/ Diaz they are going to ask the ugly kid to the dance so he can't say no? Not hearing anything more on Don Brown who was in the running, seems out of it at this point.

Yeah, I'm ready for a new D Coordinator and new defense. The lack of aggressiveness to make plays by this Defense is awful. Balls in the air, they dont make a play on it. Guys see the play in front of them and stand flat footed instead of attacking the play and making one. The scheme putting guys in bad positions, the crap angles the energy level just all sucks. New Head Coach, get a new Defense while we're at it.
