Grinch is from right outside Columbus, played at Mt Union, and loves Ohio State. All of his coaching experience so far has been on the defensive side (secondary and coordinator). If Grinch turns out to be a great DC, I can see him as a Brent Venables type in that he could stay as a DC at a school (tOSU in this case) for quite a while (Venables was DC at Oklahoma from 2004-2011, then Clemson 2012-present, with the only reason that he left OU was Bob Stoops was returning as DC). If Sciano were to leave and Grinch assumed full DC authority, I wouldn't be worried about getting a new DC for a while, provided Grinch is successful here.Let's assume Schiano finds his job, and Grinch finds success here with silver bullets.
Is he satisfied being a great DC? Some guys are... but most of the brilliant young coaches Meyer attracts have that ambition... chose Meyer specifically because of his success grooming coordinators into head coaches.
It's not far out to think we could be in the market for a DC 3 years from now.
