Training camp preview: Running backs

The Green Bay Packers? running game went from embarrassingly bad to one of the NFL?s best, corresponding with Ryan Grant?s emergence at halfback midway through last season.
Grant averaged a ridiculous 5.1 yards per carry and broke off long runs in practically every game. His decisive one-step-and-explode style is a perfect fit for the zone blocking scheme. His speed and power are surpassed only by his instincts and ability to exploit holes that develop far from the point of attack...

With Pro Bowler Donald Driver and big-play Greg Jennings entrenched as the starters, the big battles at wide receiver will be for the backup positions. No. 3: As often as teams use three-receiver sets, the No. 3 wideout is practically a starter in the modern NFL. James Jones had a productive rookie season but tapered off down the stretch. Still, with his size and strength, he quickly drew comparisons to Sterling Sharpe.

Notes From Monday Morning's First Training Camp Practice:
July 28, 2008, 11:02 am

Did you notice?
Daryn Colledge was taking the snaps with the No. 1 unit at left guard. Allen Barbre was with the No. 2 unit.

To give Chad Clifton his customary rest on days with two practices, Tony Moll took several reps as the No. 1 left tackle. In his first two years with the Packers, when Moll played tackle, he was almost exclusively on the right side.
