I searched and didnt find a thread for Green Bay so being the huge Packer fan that I am I decided to start one. If I'm doing this wrong mods please let me know.

INDIANAPOLIS -- With General Manager Ted Thompson spending his first three drafts in Green Bay re-tooling the roster and re-stocking its depth, he helped the Packers recover from a 4-12 record in 2005 to reach the NFC Championship just two years later.

And with the Packers ending 2007 on the cusp of advancing to the ultimate stage, one school of thought is that Thompson might take a different approach in this year's draft. Meaning, rather than focus on taking the "best player available" with each pick, he might target certain needs and see if he can find a draft pick or two to fill them and help put the Packers over the top.

But don't bet on it......

Mike McCarthy Press Conference Transcript - Feb. 22

What are your thoughts on the tight end position without Bubba and how big a need it could be?)
We're very happy with the way Donald Lee played, obviously. Tory Humphrey, we're hoping he'll come back off of his injury. It's an excellent year in the draft, so we'll look to add probably another player or two there. But I thought we did a much better job this year utilizing our tight ends better, with some of the off-the-line things we did schematically, and we'll look to build on that

(Do the tight ends look like a pretty good draft class?)
Preliminary, yeah. Talking with Ted, and I know Ben McAdoo has had limited opportunity to watch them, and we had a couple guys come into our interviews last night. It looks to be a very athletic group..........

Packers Place Franchise Tag On DT Williams, Release TE Franks

The Green Bay Packers have designated defensive tackle Corey Williams as their franchise player and released tight end Bubba Franks. The transactions were announced Wednesday by Executive Vice President, General Manager and Director of Football Operations Ted Thompson.

As the Packers' franchise player, Williams has a one-year contract tender offer at the defensive tackle franchise number set by the NFL. The Packers maintain a right of first refusal to match any team's offer received by Williams.

Williams played in all 16 games, including nine starts, in 2007 and set career highs with 51 tackles and 32 solo stops. He tied his career high with seven sacks..................

Packers president thinks Favre is coming back for 18th year

MILWAUKEE -- New Packers president Mark Murphy believes Brett Favre will return to Green Bay for another run at the Super Bowl.

"My guess is that he's going to come back," Murphy said Wednesday at a Milwaukee Press Club luncheon. "The team has gotten better around him and is in a position to really do great things next year."

A message left with Favre's agent, Bus Cook, wasn't immediately returned.

Contd......

Rob Davis, the team's oldest player, is a good bet to still be playing in Green Bay when he hits the big 4-0 late in the 2008 season. He remains one of the best at his specialty and commands the respect of a locker room filled with much-younger players.

-- TE Ryan Krause, a better receiver than blocker, offered little after being promoted from the practice squad at midseason.
-- QB Craig Nall returned to the team late in the season as the No. 3 guy at the position. Nall, though, isn't interested in continuing to serve as the caddie for both Brett Favre and Aaron Rodgers.......

Ted Thompson/Mike McCarthy Press Conference Transcript - March 4

posted 03/04/2008

Ted Thompson: Good afternoon. Thank you for coming. As you're all well aware of by now, Brett has informed us of his decision to retire from the Green Bay Packers and the National Football League. He's had one of the greatest careers in the National Football League, and he's able to walk away under his own terms. Very few NFL players are able to do that, and have the careers that can sustain that. Brett's accomplishments are legendary, but it was the passion with which he played that has made everyone a Brett Favre fan. His personality and love for the game allows him to become an icon to all sports fans all around the world. I think we're all a little bit disappointed, but at the same time we respect Brett's decision, and this was his decision. After those remarks, we're certainly open to taking a few questions.

(When did you hear from Brett and what exactly did he say?)
Thompson: I'll let Mike field that since he talked to him probably the most over the last couple of days.......

Rodgers says he's ready to lead Packers
By Pat Yasinskas
ESPN.com

They had been teammates for a full year before Brett Favre and Aaron Rodgers started talking the same language.

It was sometime in minicamp or training camp of 2006 when Favre reached out to the man he knew would someday replace him as quarterback of the Green Bay Packers.

"That's when Brett came to me and he really encouraged me in a couple areas where I could improve my mental toughness and the way I would deal with adversity,'' Rodgers said Wednesday by telephone from California.....

Mr. Rodgers has the right stuff to take over Favre's neighborhood

It's fitting that Aaron Rodgers had to wait three years for his chance to quarterback the Green Bay Packers. Look what he went through to get there.
I take you back to the 2005 NFL Draft when Rodgers, then at Cal, and University of Utah quarterback Alex Smith were considered possibilities for San Francisco with the first pick. The 49ers wound up taking Smith, which left everyone else free to take Rodgers.....

Aaron had amazing accuracy and decision making abilities when he was at Cal.

He couldn't have wound up in a better position in the NFL than behind Favre in Wisconsin.

I can't wait to watch him lead that amazing offense.
