King Diamond :banger:

:slappy:

In all seriousness my favorite vocalist is James Hetfield. As far as range, pitch, overall singingness, I think a couple right off the top of my head would be Freddie Mercury and Steve Perry.

Love King Diamond!!! :banger:

Though I haven't listened to either much since the early 90s, I've always been impressed by James LaBrie (Dream Theater) and Geoff Tate (Queensryche).

Yeah, I had a few Kind Diamond Tapes back in those days. I forgot about Geoff Tate, great singer, good call.

This is an easy one for me. Maynard hands down. Any other thoughts?

Agree on Maynard. Listen to any Tool cover and you'll appreciate just how good he is. Even if the cover band manages to get the arrangements down, the song invariably lags because of the vocals.

Close behind are Chris Cornell and Layne Staley.

I agree with Maynard and Cornell, Cornell is probably tops for me, but I'm also biased and I loved Vedder.

Chris Cornell is my favorite vocalist. Before the heroin took over completely, Layne Staley had one of the strongest/most forceful voices that I've ever hear. I also think that David Draiman has a cool voice...not necessarily a great vocalist though.

I've still got my Conspiracy and Fatal Portrait cassettes. :tongue2:

I saw King Diamond live at the Newport, must have been '90 or '91. Pretty wild.

I agree about Maynard- he's awesome. I think Mudvayne's singer is good- he's got a pretty good singing voice, and he's a great metal screamer as well. Also, surprisingly, Jared Leto (30 Seconds to Mars) has a good voice.

And Freddie Mercury was the man.
