this time of year provides a great oppurtunity for a place like bp. simply put people are going to go to luck for info on tourney teams. more and more fans from other teams will stumble on bp as this place continues to grow. i ask that you think about some of the great things other posters from other schools (usc, texas, okst etc) do for this board. i ask that you treat each and every new poster with the respect you would give to thomps/wstripes etc.

if you feel something is up pm a mod or flag the post.

thank you buckeyeplanet

But seriously great post, and always give the guys a chance b4 we bash them...There are some that come over just to flame, but after a few post it is pretty easy to get a read on whether or not they are trying to flame or not...

There are two types of visiting fans: good fans and trolls.

Trolls: Generally have no redeeming qualities aside from, on occasion, unintended entertainment value. Trolls are either looking for a fight, to easily drawn into a fight, or have such warped views that they provoke fights easily. Trolls are not turned off by flame wars. They will enter the fray at will.

Good posters: Usually contribute positively to discussion. They are not here to flame or fight. However, even good fans can only take so much trash before they either fight back or leave. Good fans will often avoid forums that do not have quality discussion.

Consequently, the one variable that determines the quality of the discussion is the attitude of the home fans. Yes, BP is a Buckeye site. That should only mean that (1) abrasive visiting views should be moderated and (2) visitors must have patience. If you take it to mean anything else, then Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday are going to quickly become Buckeye-only lovefests.

Now, does this mean you have to feign concern that CCSU is going to shock the world? No, of course not. I don't think the realistic CCSU fans even believe that. But if you see this exchange program as serving no purpose other than to provide you hapless CCSU posters to witness your best "you have no chance" boast, then I suggest you simply head over to the South bracket thread and begin talking about tOSU v. BYU/Xavier. Leave the trolls to the mods.

Also remember that behavior reinforces itself. It is unlikely that the mob is going to treat CCSU fans poorly and then switch course and show respect to the next fans, and the Sweet 16 fans, and so on. I think we learned this lesson in the poli forum.

That is a good point. While it is hard to have a "anything can happen" conversation and imply they have a chance it also doesn't do any good to completely dismiss them. I certainly hope our team isn't dismissing them.

You never gave me much of a chance before you started bashing me:wink2:

That is a well-deserved GPA. Says it all, methomps. Well done.

I know it's "nit-pickish", but is this just for tournament season, or..?

I know the mods always act with the quickness, but we've always been allowed to knock a troll down a peg or two before the mods get there.

Keep in mind that my comments in this thread are not BP law. They are just my opinions.

It is true that you can usually pile on a troll until a mod decides its time to move on. However, I would recommend discretion with tourney visitors. Ask yourself whether your comment is likely to incite or deter other posters. If you were here on Sunday, you saw how quickly things escalated.

Act accordingly.

Having worked with Sushi on gathering info for the previews last season I can say, it wasn't always fun posting on a forum of the opposition. I think all posts in this thread so far say it best... give those that come in peace a chance to openly speak their peace... to all others... well, 21 has a nice way of showing them the door (and other mods/admins as well.)

i think for tourney time lets not splash gas on them and play with fire. if you think they are trolling flag the post. personally like i said i love having some voices from around the country. who knows maybe itll land us a great poster or two like we have from some other schools (note: im obviously not discussing thomps)
