There are two types of visiting fans: good fans and trolls.
Trolls: Generally have no redeeming qualities aside from, on occasion, unintended entertainment value. Trolls are either looking for a fight, to easily drawn into a fight, or have such warped views that they provoke fights easily. Trolls are not turned off by flame wars. They will enter the fray at will.
Good posters: Usually contribute positively to discussion. They are not here to flame or fight. However, even good fans can only take so much trash before they either fight back or leave. Good fans will often avoid forums that do not have quality discussion.
Consequently, the one variable that determines the quality of the discussion is the attitude of the home fans. Yes, BP is a Buckeye site. That should only mean that (1) abrasive visiting views should be moderated and (2) visitors must have patience. If you take it to mean anything else, then Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday are going to quickly become Buckeye-only lovefests.
Now, does this mean you have to feign concern that CCSU is going to shock the world? No, of course not. I don't think the realistic CCSU fans even believe that. But if you see this exchange program as serving no purpose other than to provide you hapless CCSU posters to witness your best "you have no chance" boast, then I suggest you simply head over to the
South bracket thread and begin talking about tOSU v. BYU/Xavier. Leave the trolls to the mods.
Also remember that behavior reinforces itself. It is unlikely that the mob is going to treat CCSU fans poorly and then switch course and show respect to the next fans, and the Sweet 16 fans, and so on. I think we learned this lesson in the poli forum.
