(one can't water smart because smart is an adjective and water is a verb in this case. Adjectives do not modify verbs. That's why we have adverbs - water smartly)
"Expect great"
(one cannot expect great because great is an adjective, not a noun. One can expect greatness, though)
Those are just 2 current examples of how we use adjectives for everything, even when they don't make sense. I swear I see it every day.
