If he's still employed in Columbus, Gene Smith is going to really, really regret not pulling Ohio State from bowl consideration this season...
...But Smith gambled that the NCAA's Committee on Infractions wouldn't issue a postseason ban. He lost.
Smith hasn't handled this well at all but I can't really blame him for not taking the bowl ban this year. No school has ever been slapped with a bowl ban without the LOIC control label and there's no reason to think the NCAA would here, especially with the self-imposed penalties. Why willingly deprive yourself of a bowl. The NCAA's ruling was horse[Mark May].CHU;2073611; said:Sports Illustrated's Andy Staples predictions for 2012.

Errr we never got LOIC, only FOTM. That's why it was puzzling to everyone.buckeyebri;2078274; said:As has been reported the bowl ban did not come from the LOIC itself, it came from a combination of items including the LOIC and repeat offender status. This is what Smith failed to understand in his dealings with the NCAA.

Not only did they not receive the LOIC label they were not cited for failure to monitor either.
There is also at least one other case that has been cited in this thread.
People need to stop repeating this fiction.
