Smith hasn't handled this well at all but I can't really blame him for not taking the bowl ban this year. No school has ever been slapped with a bowl ban without the LOIC control label and there's no reason to think the NCAA would here, especially with the self-imposed penalties. Why willingly deprive yourself of a bowl. The NCAA's ruling was horse[Mark May].

That said, I'd like a new AD plz.

I'm not as upset about Smith taking the risk and losing as I am about the seemingly in-your-face public strategy admission

As has been reported the bowl ban did not come from the LOIC itself, it came from a combination of items including the LOIC and repeat offender status. This is what Smith failed to understand in his dealings with the NCAA.

Errr we never got LOIC, only FOTM. That's why it was puzzling to everyone.

Alabama received a two year bowl ban over the Albert Means case.

Not only did they not receive the LOIC label they were not cited for failure to monitor either.

There is also at least one other case that has been cited in this thread.

People need to stop repeating this fiction.

Mississippi State was the other case.

Exactly. Gene said he went back a whole 7 years in his research, and did not find anyone with the FTM charge receiving the bowl ban. Gerd wrote a piece on The Ozone, and went back 20 years. Found Miss St., received a bowl ban, with a FTM charge, because they were on "repeat offender" status, like us. This is Gene's fault completely.

I completely missed that he was the actual root for the myth.

That is absolutely damning evidence that the man needs to move on.
