With all due respect... Gene either has pictures of EGG or EGG is fucking high. I honestly hope he's fucking high because when the fog clears there's a chance he comes to his senses and deals with this.

These people like Gee and Smith are all part of an "Old Boy's Network" as it were...doubtless they sit around at lunch time with their $300 plates of food and talk about how the "little people" just don't understand anything about doing each others' jobs and how they get such unfair treatment from the ignorant public and media. They have both been guilty of this since they got here and thus there is zero chance Gee ever relieves Smith of his post.

Of all the dumb moves Smith has made this might be the absolute worst. You went all the way back to 2007? Seriously? Stick an intern on this and let them dig back 20 years. Inexcusable.
How does this guy still have a job???????????????

That was the very assignment given to me at one point when I was a compliance intern at a much smaller program. The NCAA maintains a fucking database on this stuff for chrissakes.

I agree, this may have been the worst of the athletic department's mistakes under Smith's direction. It's derelict, and inexcusable.

I can only hope that this is a "politically correct" statement at this point. He certainly can't speak ill of him, and at this point "no comment" would be taken that way with such a direct question.

Well now... here's a different and less ambiguous version of what Gee had to say:

Just talked to Gordon Gee, who said that Gene Smith's job is safe. Gee said the decision to not appeal was his.

"Brownie, you're doing a heck of a job." - President George W. Bush to FEMA Director Michael Brown after Hurricane Katrina

Brown resigned a month later.

Can Urban Meyer fire him (Gee)?

Yep... hello letters to the BoT... maybe this is all part of Gee's plan to completely do away with sports at tOSU and make it a completely Academic University (IE University of Chicago i believe). He knows Gene can't get out of his own way and realizes that the NCAA will do the job for him.

Gene Smith may not be the only one who needs to be shown the door.

This. Gene isn't the only one who has been dumb during this whole investigation. Gee has been an intricate clog in the year long wheel of stupidity coming from the administration.

Take Gee's comments with a grain of salt. What is he supposed to say in off the cuff remarks to reporters at a basketball game? "Smith'll be out by Friday." Remember that Gee publicly supported Tressel when the writing on the wall was quite apparent that his days were numbered.

Gee will talk with Wexner and probably a few other key board members and decide GS's fate over the Holidays. I seriously wouldn't look for anything to happen before January.
