Gene Smith (Former AD, ‘10 AD of the Year, '13 NAAC Organizational Leadership Award)

Revisionist history. Gene Smith was a rising star at the time hired and a leader on the Committee of Infractions..."Driver" is a freaking joke. It makes me sick to read post like "Driver's"...sick and hurts my heart. It is easy for all of us to use negative information to confirm our own beliefs. Should Gene Smith be fired for what happened at OSU? Yes, probably, but don't use the failings of the AD and the inter-collegiate athletic system to legitimize your biases.

Holy shit. Did you even read the original post by "Diver"? (not "Driver", dipshit...at least get the moniker right) Virtually everything Diver said back in 2005 was spot on. Smith was a "rising star" because he was, and still is, a fucking scheister.

Gene Smith virtually assured a bowl ban when he made those silly statements about what he would do if a bowl ban was levied.

What side of him is it that we have never seen? Oh, that's right, the backside. In my opinion, he has added nothing since his illustrious predecessor departed. He should be offered the chance to resign or be fired.

The sooner the better. This evening would be good for me.

How about have Bob Knight do it at half time?

GO Bucks!!!

Diver warned everyone nearly seven years ago what we had in store for us. It may hurt your heart if people are saying negative things about Gene (who has failed in his job), but Diver was spot on. There is no revisionist history in his post, which I believe is on the first page of this thread. I had hoped for better and as an alumnus I am very disappointed by his lack of performance.

You know that the man wouldn't be above selling naming rights to Ohio Stadium (it would probably be the field not the stadium). So at least we avoided that.

If it can be sold, he'll try to sell it. Surprised Script Ohio isn't sponsored.

The guy is and has always been a money guy and not a leader. Sometimes people are CFO's and not CEO's.

Mili already took care of this, but it bears repeating. Check the time stamp. Your "revisionist history" comment is equine excrement.

Yeah. Revisionist history. We're all racist because we're calling a guy out for doing an uber shitty job.

Right.

I live in Phoenix and am a season ticket holder to ASU baseball -- one of the numerous formerly distinguished programs Smith has managed to run into the ground. This is truly the best possible choice for ASU and the worst possible choice for OSU. Smith has exactly one redeeming characteristic -- he's Black; but after all, if it wasn't for affirmative action, Holbrook would still be teaching second grade in Georgia. Apparently there's only one criterion for selection in Holbrook's book.
Smith has created a huge athletics department deficit here; he is a truly inept fund raiser who is completely unorganized and has no clue to go about anything. The building programs have languished. The baseball, wrestling, and basketball teams have been absolutely destroyed under his tenure and may never recover. In alumni/supporter events he's detached and communes only with a small group of backers who have moved into the department like vultures. They have hacked large numbers of department employees in the past couple of years in an attempt to balance the books, which still hasn't worked. In speaking with him you wonder if he's really as dumb as he comes across, or if it's an act. The athletics department is currently under NCAA investigation for a number of football violations, including the use of autos provided by department employees, academic fraud, and other maladies, and he has no handle on any of these things whatsoever.
I was truly astounded when I read this story. This guy is much worse than Jim Jones. Say good-bye to proud athletic tradition, integrity, and fiscal soundness at OSU if he comes on board for the sake of stoking Holbrook's political correctness agenda.
