Walk into your local Verizon store.

Tell them you need a new phone.

The salesperson will ask you if you watch a lot of sports on your phone.

You'll briefly think to yourself, "Why would I watch sports on my phone? I just bought a 84 inch plasma.... oooh, gotcha."

You'll say, "Yes"

They'll find you an appropriate device and data plan.

I hate to keep throwing wrenches in your good advice, but I'm the draconian one when it comes to phones. I don't text, I don't game, I don't data, nada. I have a 300-minute per month plan and, between the wife and I, we don't use them. I have sent maybe five texts in my life, and don't see the use of texting when I could simply call the person far more easily. I also don't have a tremendously active circle of friends so I don't need to coordinate a lot of things, so texting isn't a big deal.

Sorry to be so off-topic. Hi, Gator. Welcome back, and all that.

Wow, and here I was wondering why anyone in their right mind would want to watch a movie on their phone. The advertisements hawking that ability have all become so clear now.

As, I said, I'm here to help.

I'm the same way for the most part. I carry a smartphone though I'm gonna use the internet, apps and games and I don't want to carry an extra device just so a I have a telephone for the 45 minutes a month that I actually want to use one. It's a pocket-sized computer and music player that happens to make phone calls.
