Game6 (yes, 6): Cavs at Celtics

Let's put this on the table first...Steve Nash is too old to garner a max contract...with that being said:

A team like the Knicks can offer 2 max deals....say LeBron and Bosh. Add Nash with a nice contract and sign veterans to fill out the roster.

It isn't that hard to build an instant contender.

That is the Knicks exact blue-print BTW.

That Jamison trade will hurt. Without it, they could get Bosh and pair him with James. Get rid of Shaq and other dead weight.

The decision to get Shaq was dumb. Howard isn't THAT great. He's foul prone. He's a FT nightware.

They lost to Orlando b/c Lewis and the Turk were on fire. Not because of Howard. They could have just drafted DeJuan Blair and been a better team.

They are so far over the cap that they still wouldn't have been able to pay a second max deal if they hadn't traded for Jamison. Right now they stand at 9 mil over the cap with Lebron's hold. I still believe Ferry made the best moves he could.

Still not going to win with the no D coach. Lebron, Bosh, and Nash with 9 D-leaguers isn't enough. The Knicks have given away all their draft picks trying to clear space. Lebron is only signing a 3 year deal so he is going to go to the place where he can win the most.

Agreed. At the time I was begging for Stoudamire even though a lot of people were against it. I think most would agree that was the right move in hindsight. Jamison sucked in the playoffs and couldn't check Kevin Garnett at all....Stoudamire at least has the size and physicality to keep Garnett at bay.

So what's next? Even if Cleveland re-signs LeBron, which isn't happening IMO, they won't have the team make-up to beat Orlando anytime soon.

It's ugly Cleveland.

So he goes to Chicago or Miami? That winnable place is far from Cleveland now...

A championship rejuvenates Shaq to come back giving the Cavs an instant roster to beat Orlando. The momentum likely keeps LeBron around...

But this loss kills LeBron coming back to Cleveland.

So, do we declare this season a failure? Even though they had the best record in the regular season, this series was pathetic and we will likely lose the best player in the NBA (who pretty much got to the playoffs in the first place). I have to be honest, I'm a big believer in how a team finishes rather than how they started. The Cavs have helped validate the "Cleveland curse" and I'm sick of hearing about it. Maybe I'm being a typical Cleveland fan but I'll say this season was a failure. I can't believe the lack of heart displayed this series.

Stoudamire wasn't an option. The Cavs didn't have enough to give up to get him.

who cares about the regular season

this train wreck didnt even get to the conference finales, let alone the NBA finals

the NBA is a sad sad league if this group had the best record IMO

The talent is there...It is just not played right...

Jamison should be our 6th man...

Andy and Hickson should start at the 4/5...They give us size and athleticism...

Jamison brings scoring off the bench, and it doesn't hurt you when he can't guard a guy like Garnett...

Not a huge Parker fan, but between Mo, West, Parker, Moon you have a solid backcourt...

It is impossible to have chemistry when you never know who is going to be beside you...

Mike Brown needs to go...

The right coach could rejuvenate. I'm sure Gilbert will do anything and everything to talk him into coming back. If he leaves Chicago and NJ are the best options.

For as bad as NJ played this year they don't have that bad of a lineup. Add Lebron and Wall or Turner and they would be pretty good. I'm not sure who the Bulls would have to let walk to sign Lebron, but they have a good young team and I think Lebron would fit well. Miami has to let everyone walk to sign Wade and Lebron. They would have to rely on some other guys wanting to come play for the minimum to put together a winner. I don't know the west well enough to know where he would be a good fit, but if he wants to win he'll need to go someplace where they have a big that can challenge Howard. Really if he wants to win championships sign a 3 year deal with the Magic for the MLE.
Hopefully Gilbert can convince Lebron to come back and pick the coach he wants. I really don't think the roster is that far away with the right coach calling the shots. I'd let Z walk and bring Shaq back as a bench player if he would do it. Give me JJ and Andy playing 30-35 minutes a game and hopefully an improved Jamison with a full season. If Lebron leaves this is a first round losing playoff team next year.

No, I don't think NJ has a bad lineup...but LJ has said he wants to be a billion dollar athlete, and no one has ever given a shit about the New Jersey Nets. I know Mash has been saying that's a good choice, but I don't see it. I more but the whole trying to bring LJ and Phil Jackson back to CHicago or bringing LJ and Bosh/Wade to New York...those scenarios I can see. Him going to the Nets would be like him going to the Clippers from a marketing standpoint...yes, they are in/around a big city, but they are and always have been second (at least) fiddle.

off topic sort of

but does anyone else think that the Knicks are setting themselves up for a major major train wreck...not that they arent already one

but

all this crap theyve done to free up for max contracts is going to backfire on them IMO

I can't remember the last time the Knicks weren't a train wreck...that trend will eventually reverse. Not sure if now is the time or not, but it will eventually.
