The Peterson performance was anomoly compared to the rest of the season. As for Morency check his stats in the second half. Most of his yards came on one 80 yard jaunt that came early in that malaise that Horns displayed in the 1st half of that game.
Most of the hype has to do with our defensive tackles Wright, Dibbles, Okam, and the injured Lokey. They're big, quick, agile and hard to defend. However our ends didnt really make their presence felt until the end of the year. As for the Rose Bowl performance those guys had several key stops that allowed us to get back in the game. Our special teams is the main reason the Rose Bowl came down to a field goal stayed in the game. They're average starting field position was 40+ (not sure on the exact yardage but I do know it was past their 40, I'm sure someone will look it up).
So our OkState game, your OkState game, your OU game, and probably any other game that doesn't support your theory are anomalies. We have a reason to think that our early loses were different, considering there were like 8-10 starers that were replaced (including some slackers like Ginn, Gonzalez, and Smith)... the argument abaout OkState is like us saying Ramonce's stats are irrelevant b/c he ripped off one big run during one game. please.
In the RB, your team gave up that field position (and I am not cinvinced it won't do so again). but beyond that, why is it so impossible to keep them from scoring TDs every time?
Let's look at the OkState game, a very average passer completed just 12 passes and threw for 224 yards. Despite turning it around after a 35 pont blowout in the first half (that sounds like an unbeatable defense that won't have DJ anymore)... you only had one sack all game.
I think much of your overconfidence comes from beating up on big12 teams that are not very good. OU looked awful good the last two years and then got dismantled late in teh seasons.
You tried to shut down OU's passing attack, and Peterson went nuts on you (240 yds). You didn't get a single sack in that game. You didn't adjust at halftime to his running, which sounds more like you couldn't than you wouldn't.
So OSU went nuts on you. OU couldn't be stopped. Brown kept kicking to Breaston, and rarely kept them out of the endzone. Heck, even TxTech, who clearly could not matchup well talentwise/physically (and therefore you had your way with them offensively)... racked up 400 yds of passing yards (they didn't pretend to have a running game).
At some point your defensive struggles against good teams have to say something. They can't all be anomalies.
