i will say this about the tOSU bashing on hornfans. someone coined the term "swing state aggy" I thought it was great. It is not ment to imply some sort of aggieness but rather just a fun way to refer to teams we play.

ex:

atm= aggy
texas tech= sand aggy
baylor= bible aggy
ou= land thief aggy
tosu= swing state aggy

Very good to know. I know how low you think about the aggies, so I thought it was more of an insult than that. However I can see it as being similar to how we call USCum, even tho our biggest reason is that he spins his web and ensnares recruits on his plane (not exactly a strong case). :wink:

Ahem! A very short course on Aggies....

To reply to the concern that a Hornfans poster compared Ohio State to aggies, I'll first say it is an inappropriate comparison: probably the Texas poster was not happy with Buckeye fans posting about your team's strong points. It seems to be fashionable to label all sorts of folks as aggies. Aggies are unique as noted in this posting on an aggie fan site:

The last time Bevo was stolen was 1972, he was stolen by a Huslin One Sophomore, he was one of my dad's best friends. He kept the halter and it still resides in his house today in Corpus Christi Texas, I have held it in my hands and heard the story from the horse's mouth, it truly is a good bull story that will live forever in Aggie lore.

So, recognizing the rustic naivete in the above post, I point out that "aggies" are from one of the original Land Grant Schools, such as Purdue and Clemson, where agriculture and engineering were originally emphasized. The school, however, is large, has a good reputation academically and also has the major veterinary school for Texas. Sadly, the perceived sophistication of farming and livestock management has produced running jokes (for over a half century) concerning aggie students seeking relationships with sheep. This was inferred because until the school finally went coed, the entire student body was male. AND, being an aggie before coed days meant that a student was a member of the Corps of Cadets.

The dolts and idiots part stems from decades old beliefs--city smarts versus country bumpkins-- that the aggie student population came from rural, small-town Texas, while UT students came from the big cities and the fancy life--"T-Sips", as aggies like to call us. We would somehow view the rural folk as being a few bricks short of Jethro Bodine. Actually, many aggies come from the same big cities but, it is believed, are transformed into dolts and idiots once they reach Aggieland.

I could go on, but let us say that comparing you to aggies is just plain wrong.
None of you would say, as one aggie was reputed to say:

If you discount our losses over the past five years, we're practically undefeated.

also if you were curious what a "huslin one sophomore" is, i dont know for sure either, I can only guess that it is the name of a unit in the core or one of their dorms. Yes believe it or not aggy's have dorm pride. who knew that was even possible?

The bottom line is if you act respectful at the game, you'll be treated the same in return. If you act like a dick, you'll be treated as such.

There will be a few drunken idiots running around, but for the most part, everyone will be respectful to opposing non conference fans.

We had 2 scUM fans in front of us last year and aside from a little good natured ribbing we got along fine. Now, if we start losing, then it could get a little ugly.

I don't see the similarities to Aggies that some people are talking about on HornFans.com. Maybe some guys talked to BuckeyeBoy and took him to be the average Ohio State fan :biggrin:.

As for what being an Aggy really is, well I'll do my best. They're kind of like the little brother of a guy who's the high school quarterback and leader of the basketball team. Then when the little brother is in high school he's just not as good as his older brother but claims he is and then ends up hating his brother because he's not as good. They have an all encompassing penis envy of Texas. For a little tidbit, here is their "War Hymn":

It's a total of 13 lines. Six of these lines are dedicated to the University of Texas, three lines are about themselves, and they have four lines of jibberish. So in their own fight song they spend more time speaking jibberish than they do speaking of themselves. And they spend twice as much time talking about us than they do themselves. And before repeating this they all sway, arm-in-arm chanting "Saw Varsity's Horns off."

A lot of what makes up an Aggy is their incessant opinion that they are our football equal. They claim they are a top tier team like Alabama, USC, Ohio St, Florida St, etc. etc. They claim EVERY year that they are going to beat us the next year and then things will get back to "normal." And normal in their eyes is beating us regularly, while in actuality our overall record against them is 72-34-5, advantage Texas of course. They claim the all important Kyle Field 12th man will run us into the ground when we play there next year. Problem is we have a winning record at THEIR place.

Ok, I think that's enough for now. That should give you an idea of what being an "Aggy" is really all about. I'm sparing you the full wrath that I have concerning Ags because I could go on and on and I'm sure you're just looking for an overview.

also between the lines of "that is the song they sing so well" and "so good by to texas university" they all yell "SOUNDS LIKE HELL" so i guess if you wanted to you could say that they spend 7 of 14 lines about us and 4 more of jibberish that they swear has meaning

im glad that our song isnt stupid enough to put down michigan or anything, that would be weird.

is that their official fight song? (war hymn... w/e)

Ok... so the first version I found only had one verse and this one has the first verse also... but yes, this is their official song.

the verse that you posted is the only one that they ever sing, the "first verse" is something of an issue in collegestation, the newer students or new army as they have been dubbed want to sing the first verse so as not to sound so obsessed with UT and to stand on their own. The old army, traditionalists of wich atm is mainly comprised, want to continue to sind the second verse and dont really even consider the first verse a part of the song as it was actually written 30 or so years after the "second" verse

Hullabaloo - A party that has not alcohol. Or chicks. You know how everyone lived near a REALLY nerdy guy in college? Like, he should be in that movie about nerds and they get revenge (I can't remember the name). (No - The nerdy guy wasn't me! In fact, even I made fun of that guy.) Anyway, if he threw a party, and invited friends of equal nerd status, this is what he would call it.

Caneck - The actual definition is a "retarded sheep wearing people's clothes." But back in the '60's, people used to make fun of the hippies by calling them canecks. In the late '70's, the sheep got pissed off that the hippies brought the reputation of the word down, and they went on strike. (Many believe that the Great Sheep Strike is the reason why the Mona Lisa is smiling. But I don't believe it.)

Chigaroogarem - Southerner talk for "Yo, dude, quit banging my sister, and let me have my turn." I guess some people have to say this often enough that it's easier to say "chigaroogarem."
