Game Thread Game Two: Texas 25, Ohio State 22 (final)

Youboty's success has nothing to do with the last two games of the season. He was an impact player from the minute he stepped on the field, and midseason he won the starting job when Fox went down with a broken arm, and ended up being the starter across from Fox soon after. He singlehandedly shutdown both AA WR's in Stubblefield and Edwards in back to back weeks. The two big catches for Braylon were when he lined up against a gimpy Fox. Youboty broke up and had the advantage (in terms of who was gonna catch it) more often than not on about 5 jumpballs for Braylon.

Good Stuff

I like the idea that there is going to be a game this year and next. What I don't like is that it might not happen again, or rarely at best. It seems to me that if there is going to be constant diddling with the BCS thing, and no playoff system in the foreseeable future, there at least ought to be some of these games every year. I would like to see Texas play Ohio State and Michigan rather than New Mexico State and Utah. I would like to see Texas play some of the really good SEC teams. What other teams would you like to see on your schedule?

We've got USC twice, Miami FL twice, VT twice (this one is not as confirmed), @ WSU, @ Wash, Syracuse twice. Its gonna be a lot of fun driving Coker into early retirement if he isn't there by then. I'd like to play Tennessee personally, as most of us really don't like fulmer.

coker might be the most overrated coach in football. I wouldn't suprised to see him "let go" any time soon
We'd put Carr up there too  but you wouldn't find a soul that would disagree with you from the buckeye fans on this site. He's driven that program into the ground with reckless abandon, and at a time when he should be dominating the floundering FSU/UF programs.

High Lonesome, there are a few kids who didn't stay with the team out of that 2002 class. The most disappointing two are the reason we have no experienced wide receivers this year. 4 star Robert Timmons and 5 star Marquis Johnson. They would've been a big help last year too.

Youbouty is from Texas, right? I remember reading that a few times here. What was the deal with his recruitment? I don't remember hearing anything about him, yet he obviously was highly rated. Was he an early commit?

Youboty's high school was Klein, which I believe is in or near Houston. When he was younger, he spent time in Pennsylvania, and wanted to play in the Big-10. It came down to a decision betwen tOSU and Penn St. - he committed on Dec. 17, 2002 - neither early nor late. But he was an early enrollee at tOSU in 2003.

FWIW, he was a 4-star (#14 CB) in Rivals, and a 3-star (#24 CB) in Scout/Insiders.

please remember one thing, osu was the 5 place team in the big 12 south last year. They were not a very good team.

Please keep in mind that in 2002 (ie the 05 junior class) texas had what was considered the best recruiting class of the mac brown era and a top 5 (i think maybe #1) national class. I would be lying if I told you I knew how many of them were still on the team or making an impact, but the point is that I will put a Mac Brown team up against any in terms of talent.
For not being a very good team, Oklahoma State sure took it to you guys for 2 quarters. At least we ran them off the field from the beginning.

As to your other opinion, it seems there's yet another similarity between Mack Brown and John Cooper...

and yet they somehow let us win the game. one half does not a good team make

also, northwestern took it to you guys last year but i would hardly call them a big 10 beast

More Bang for the Bucks

See, USC, Miami, VT...now that's what I'm talking about. Somehow our Athletic Director likes to schedule obscure or feckless teams and charge more every year for the tickets. Sheesh....at least schedule an away game with Tulane in New Orleans. Who cares if they're no good. Or play LSU at Reliant in Houston or in Baton Rouge. It's been a long time since we've played Miami or USC. Heck, schedule a game with Memphis State at Memphis, or play Tennessee.

Who wants to play Swampee Tech? In these times, with the potential for big television ratings, and bigger payoffs, and regardless the BCS, it would be much better to have more super teams play each other more frequently.

Agreed that OkState can't be held against you. I think you can glean some things from it, and shouldn't overemphasize other things.

We'd gladly run Notre Shame into the ground 2 times in a row again. But they won't schedule us anymore.

From a fans perspective I don't think you would find anyone anywhere that would argue with that. I think everyone would like to see more OOC matchups between the traditional power schools. COaches and AD's might differ though. I doubt the payout for the tOSU/UT game will be much different than the payout for the tOSU/Miami(OH) game the week before, and a loss of anytype can cost the coach his job, and the AD donations.

Of course I am counting the days to this matchup though.

If they renew that Arkansas rivalry, HL, remember to wear a helmet in the bar! :wink2:

thank you! look at the ok-lite game all you want but this notion of a bad loss has got to be one of the dumbest things in sports. This not unique to buckeyboy, people all over the nation talk about "common opponents" and my team did this while you only did that. The fact is that each situation is different and the teams match up differently. If you want to say that Texas played poorly in the first half of that game thats fine, it was the worst half of football that texas played all year imo. However, you also have to talk about how well they played in the second half. When someone brings the alamo bowl up as a reason that you will beat us i have to laugh. The truth is that they were the 5th ranked team out of 6 in the big twelve south and really not that good of a team. They weren't indiana, but they weren't mich either.

Thats the problem, It is actually more profitable to schedual the north texas' of the world. they will come to austin twice instead of doing a home/home for the exposure that it gets their program. It all comes back to money
