only thing that i got was vague refrence to death and taxes

oh and as far as impressive victories, how about laying the wood to the team that crushed cal in their bowl, Texas Tech, or beating Arkansas in feyetville(i know that looking at their record this doesn't seem big, but that is a very intense rivalry game and always hard fought)

Who should have got the bid?

I do not disagree that there was not a clear cut pick i.e perfect world between Texas and Cal but looking at the last BCS bowls there seems to be a trend towards the Big 12. Nebraska in the Rose Bowl a couple of years ago was a joke and a Pac 10 team was held out. Texas gets it last year? Oklahoma did it the year before to USC? How anyone can say they need to openly lobby for a bowl is beyond me. Save his breath for the OU game and perhaps they win one. Last years NC game was a wake up call to voters that this trend needs to change and not a bias.

thats fine, I won't disagree that there has been a trend towards big 12. For a while I feel that the big 12 deserved that trend. We are down now and honestly I would be shocked to see the big 12 have two teams in the bcs over the sec or big ten. ou was an embarassment no doubt (both in the rrs and the mnc) but i have to say that i loved every second of the orange bowl.

the reason that mac lobbied for a bowl was to point out the inconsitancies that were going on at the time. I wish I still had the article to show you what was happening but there were more than a few people that had texas ranked #6-10 and that was flat out biassed. When texas lost to ou they dropped out of the top ten (or close can remember for sure) when cal lost to sc they dropped to 5 i think.

Damnit i'm getting a headache and went through all this crap back in december. if you are so damned worried if the right team got to the bowl then look at it by the numbers. Texas deserved to be there and won the damn game

Any rivalry game on the road is a solid win, bet I'll bet you were pretty nervous until Matt Jones fumbled near the 20-yard line very late in the game. :wink2:

when he fumbled i actually jumped and hit my head on the crossbeam on the cealing of the bar i was at. Just a little excited you could say:biggrin:

oh and in case people don't realize, Arkansas HATES Texas. when they beat us in austin two years ago their coach, thats right coach, steaked a pig flag in our field, stole a peice of turf, and ran of the field with the upsidedown hook'em.

This year, when they got ragged on for using pink jerseys in practice to single out people who were going half ass, they changed the color to burnt orange.

just getting fired up

Longhorn you are a great sport and just getting ready for the biggest game in a long time. With all the Matta news and the ticket applications in the mail for this game gets you fired up. I wish there were more games scheduled like this so we did not leave it to the pools. Austin is the best place in Texas and next year will be surrounded by red.

What can you expect from their coach, he's a Nutt. And we saw the news about the pink being changed to burnt orange. That does show how deep their hatred is, since they've got the whole SEC to worry about now.

And feel free to hate Crimson and Big Red (and even garnet and cardinal), but Scarlet's a different color. Just like Burnt orange is different (and better) than the shitty shades of orange seen in places like Gainesville, Knoxville, and Champaign, Ill.

You were trashing them, don't be all, "they had a good season" now... now I only went back a couple pages... but that's the first I've seen this.
Go back a few posts and check it out then. I agree with Burk98 about Mack Brown's pleading with the pollster's last year -- I don't want to see college football lowering itself to the point where coaches have to act like politicians every year because their teams didn't get things done on the field. I just don't like it. That being said, I agree with Texas's getting a BCS shot last year, if for no other reason than there was no one who deserved the at-large bid more than they did. As I've said many times, suggesting that Cal was a BCS team last season was a joke and tarnishes the esteem that goes along with making it to a BCS bowl. Then again, I'm not sure this opinion matters, considering I am new to this forum, as has been pointed out.

Oh yea, I forgot...

They are all out celebrating the first ever game of football for The Ohio State University on this day in 1890 (what was I thinking?!?)

edit; Gregorylee quoted himself (yep, and know that I know I can do that... I am going 3rd person on yalls asses!).

Yeah, you beat scUM...on a last second field goal. Nothing like that pounding we gave them. It took a TD in scrub time for them to keep it from being any more of a blowout than it actually ended up. As far as taking care of business goes, how about having to dig yourselves out of a giant hole against an Oklahoma State team that we made look like did not belong on the same field as us. And I won't even go into detail regarding how you "took care of business" against that powerhouse football program that is Kansas.
I'm not reading much "Texas was a good team" in this post. I guess I missed that part. A lot of people, including me, responded to the way your post taunted the Texas fan, saying that OSU beat those two better than they did, and that Texas couldn't beat Kansas firmly... the point is OSU can't talk smack (there are no niceties in that post) to a Texas team with 3 less losses than our squad.

Playing up being a victim is only going to make it worse, dude. Let it go, and everyone will forget about it.

I have been in Austin (on business - but lots of good eating on company account :)) -- and for anyone who hasn't made it there it is a beatiful city, that feels like a town... sort of like Columbus doncha know, though warmer :wink2:.

And HighLonesome's photo of Stevie Ray reminds me of the one thing Austin has big time over any city, and that is their whole City Limits Music tradition. I was never lucky enough to grab tickets to a good blues show while in town though ... :(

Better luck next time (or year) I guess.
