Well I guess we should just not count any of his rushing td's. Or at least don't give a qb six points for scoring on the ground. You don't have to respect him as a passer.(no one has yet) but I think that you have to respect what he does. maybe you don't, hell I would rather you didn't that helps Texas. Somthing tells me that JT might try to account for him.
Not to shit on your cornmeal, but what these fans think has little to do with helping or hurting Texas.

If Tress and Co. don't account for Young, it's going to be a long long day, no question about it. In my view, Young IS Texas football right now. The rest of your playmakers are young or otherwise less than expierenced. That's just my opinion.

We do respect his ability to run. We feel we can contain him pretty well (note: not shut him down, I doubt that's possible). There will be a few wild posters who think VY will gain no more than 20 yards on us, and that's absurd. But here is my prediction for the game assuming his passing game is on par with my expectations (which include slight improvement, ability to scramble to buy time vs. rush, and receivers vs. coverage)

20-42 218 yds 1 td 2 ints
22 carries 85 yds 1 td

Keep in mind Chad Henne, a much better passer with much better WR options, went 27-52 for 328 yds with 2 tds and 2 ints.

<!-- / message --><!-- sig -->
that is somewhat deceiving as henne gained a lot of those yards in the 4th quarter when michigan was desperately playing catch-up, and osu was in prevent D just trying to prevent the big play.

Evidently, that was well worth repeating :)

Oh, JT will account for Young alright. We'll rely on our front four to apply the same amount of pressure as they did against Michigan and Oklahoma State. Young will have about 3 seconds, if he's lucky, to find a receiver and get rid of the ball. If he decides to run, JT will keep both OLBs wide for containment and the MLB will plug the middle. Our secondary is more than capable of radar-locking on 3-4 receivers...Snyder (our DC) will not play soft zone as he did in the beginning of the Michigan game, but rather keep it tight, rotating between man and zone, throwing in an occasional corner and safety blitz to keep Young confused.

Oklahoma State said we had the best defense they faced last year, even better than the same Oklahoma defense that shout Texas out. Trust us, Young will have his work cut out for him that Saturday night.

I have heard it said many times on this board, Rivalry games are different. Yes ou shut us out. Are they as good as we made them look? no. Im not so much worried about your front 4 as I am your linebackers. I expect/hope to see texas roll young out much the way they had him do the last half of the season(conveniently after the ou game) It will be up to the LB's to contain him, maybe your ss if you roll him up I dont know enough about your defense. I have no doubt that young will have his work cut out for him, but my orange glasses allow me to see him on at least 1 30 yard jaunt up the field

I see a 25 yarder...with a grand total of 85 on the day :p and both of our safeties help out with the run game from time to time. The one thing you can count on will be tons of different looks and blitz packages. VY won't be throwing into the same zone very often, and hopefully they'll go man to man some too.

I would be a little suprised to see much man coverage. I doubt tresell takes the chance of having his corner defenders turning and running while VY still has the option to throw or run himself.

I would not be surprised to see Young bust a long run or two during the course of the game. But, don't count on a performance like he had in the Rose Bowl.
I wouldn't be surprised if I never see that again. To many horn fans have this caviar taste in there mouth from the rose bowl and expect VY to do that every game. Its just not gonna happen. Doesn't even need to happen for that matter. What does need to happen is VY make solid choices whether thats checking down or picking up the 1st with his legs or taking a shot downfield.

What in the heck are we gonna discuss for the next 155 days (until our season starts and we can discuss our first game observations... on a side note thank goodness that counter above is finally fixed)?

I mean we can only drool over Teddy Gone, Tone, and Gonzo so long. Wait... no we are fully capable of rambling on about them for the entire offseason :) Boy this board is gonna rewrite the books on homerism if Haw/Dukes/others have breakout performances during the spring game.

Now... I'm about 7 pages behind on this thread... but if I'm a Texas fan... I'm wondering who else is going to step up in this game... SOMEONE will have to. Not Vince Young, nor Michael Vick, or the Archangel Michael for that matter, is going to beat Ohio State on the road all by themselves.... period.

So.. I like that... Ohio State will commit to stopping VY first... and force someone else to beat them. Who's that going to be?

Michigan is too damned stupid for that (and they had Benson to worry about)... hell... they punted to Ginn... Morons.

Now... of the other skill players... who is going to carry the load?

Me too... though I think it will be a tie if that happens... and I'll need to be closer on the final score... although, I have Loiusville in the finals, so if they win and lose to NC... I win.

Good Luck.
