Pitcock and Green are going to be very solid in the middle as we know the biggest questions is at the rush end spot. We know Kudla can play run defense which IMO wil be good this game, but our other d-end spot is up in the air.

If Gholston is anywhere the freak he has been in practice, I think we're really standing pretty, with Richardson and Patterson. I wouldn't mind seeing Gholston slide to the end opposite of of Kudla instead of being his backup.

Texas message board - forum

Go to http://www.austin360.com

Click on #1 360

Scroll down left side to Longhorns. Click on Longhorns

Box comes up containing "Hook 'em". Click on Hook'em.

Look for "Talk it over". Click on Talk it over. And you're there.

It won't be as interesting as OSU board because everything on there concerns
"We must defeat OU in 2005."

Others have commented on the front 4 pressure scheme, but yer right Lonesome, the LB corp is a staunch part of the tOSU's D. One name from that group -- Schegel... That young man seems to hunt down the type of option or roll-out plays that would make best use of Young's athletic ability. And if you think the "hunt" wording is over-inflated we can direct your attention to some primitive weapons hunting photos, beast on beast, with Schlegel taking down a huge boar. I believe we will hear Anthony's number called many times after he plants Vince Young.

Young will get yards -- he is too good to be bottled up all night -- overall though his experience could turn out to be quite stifling.
Schegel is from Texas. How did he get away from UT??? I'm not complaining
just wonder if any UT fans know if Mack Brown was recruiting this beast. How
did he end up at Air Force?

If I remember correctly, Schlegel wasn't recruited by any big-time football programs coming out of high school, and that's why he went to Air Force. In fact, I think I remember him saying that he had a bit of a grudge against the Texas schools for not recruiting him, and for that reason didn't look at them when he was transferring from Air Force (and at that time, after the huge impact he had had at Air Force, he probably could have gone anywhere). I'm not sure if the failure to recruit him (and it clearly was a failure) was because he came from a small H.S., because he was perceived as not being fast enough, or what.

Youboty on the other hand, I think could have gone anywhere he wanted to on scholarship right out of H.S.

Schlegel had offers from Air Force and TCU coming out of high school. Pretty amazing considering he set some kind of world power lifting record when he was 18.

Youboty made it known that he preferred playing in the Big Ten. He had previously lived in Philly.

It's interesting that so many people are willing to concede that to Vince up front, because they expect him to be good in some capacity, but the fact of the matter is, when Vince is getting his yards, it usually means he's ending up in the end zone as well, which is what makes all the difference anyway. There are certainly games when Vince doesn't go crazy on the ground but still leads 75% of the drives to scores, so if thats the handicap, I'll glady take it. When Vince does get his yards, though, those percentages for scoring (and winning) go up even higher, so I really think to feel safe, you've got to say, 'this guys isn't getting more than 50 net yards on the ground, or we're screwed.' Its just not terribly effective to defend that aspect of the offense any other way.

I dont' think many people complain that Shaquille O'Neal is a terrible jump shooter and probably takes a shot 10 feet or greater from the basket about 3 times a season. I mean jump shooting is a strong criteria for what makes a basketball player right? Very true. However, with Shaq, he is simply using the most efficent means of scoring by dunking and putbacks, and hence doesn't need to shoot the ball to be the most dominant basketball player ever. Same concept when Vince is getting his yards on the ground; if he's getting that, he doesn't need to throw, and when he does, it becomes easier because he's such a dangerous runner. But like feeding the post until somebody stops it, if Vince is able to run, he's gonna keep running, and him doing that usually means good things for the Horns.

Huge, HUGE, difference between being able to run between the 20s and running the ball into the end zone. campies, you're by far the biggest Young homer so far to visit us...you think he's some sort of supernatural being that can just score at will. I'll remind you again of the way Oklahoma put the clamps on him, and that was at a neutral venue where you had half the stand full of Longhorn fans. You'll be playing in front of 95,000-100,000 fired-up Buckye fans (depending on how many tickets we release to Texas). I'll also remind you that our defense is as fast as or faster than, and hits just as hard as or harder than, Oklahoma's defense, and that Oklahoma State said our defense was the best they faced last year which includes that same Oklahoma defense. Young had better play one of his best games, if not his very best game, of his career...if he doesn't, Texas WILL lose.

now I know us buckeye fans love Ginn/Holmes/Gonzo/Smith/Zwick/Hawk/Carpenter/Schlegal/Pitcock/Whitner/Salley/Kudla/Youboty

how come its this from you Vince Young/????/????/????

Vince Young is a good player and a front runner for Hiesman but like Mili Said infront of 95,000+ fans and the best defense you guys have faced all through last year I think you won't find yourself in the endzone 75% of the time....

Here's Si.com's write-up on the Texas scrimmage to wrap up spring drills:

http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2005/football/ncaa/04/03/bc.fbc.texasspring.ap/index.html

AUSTIN (AP) -- Vince Young passed for 115 yards and ran for 24 as the Texas Longhorns wrapped up spring drills Saturday night with the annual Orange-White scrimmage.

In a modified scoring system that awarded the defense points for forcing punts, turnovers and sacks, the offense outscored the defense 24-21. Backup quarterback Matt Nordgren passed for 51 yards and ran for another 41.

Ramonce Taylor returned a kickoff 89 yards for a touchdown. Limas Sweed caught three passes for 54 yards.
David Pino kicked a 45-yard field goal.

Texas opens the regular season Sept. 3 at home against Louisiana-Lafayette. The Longhorns were 11-1 last year and beat Michigan 38-31 in the Rose Bowl, the site of next season's Bowl Championship Series title game.

I realize it's a scrimmage, but just over 100 yards doesn't sound like shining to me...

And I agree, Ginn is gonna light them up unless they do something fast... cuz kicking to holmes isn't a much better idea. Not to hijack the thread... but why don't we simply have the primary KR line up the furthest back and then field the kickoff? I always found it curious that we allowed teams to kick away from holmes...
