I am by no means guarenteeing a victory based on past VY heroics. I am however guarenteeing future VY heroics to be on the night of Sept.10, which may or may not be enough to lead the Horns to a W in the Horsehoe. It will take one hell of an effort to do so to be sure, but one hell of an effort is exactly what you can expect to get from Vince Young and co.

Guaranteeing?

I'll be amazed if he scores 2 TDs.... Amazed...

I'm not even quite sure why the rest of you are so sure VY is going to get any yards to speak of?

Who gives a shit if Meatchicken's 4.9 running safties can't catch him?

To be completely honest, I only see it as a 75% likelihood that Vince Young Walks off the fireld under his own power. I don't mean to be an ass... but... he's a marked man, and in IMO the only legit weapon Texas has got... he's going to take a lot of (clean) hits.

Anyone have any pictures or video of Darrion Scott introducing himself to Jason Gesser three years ago?

One of the best clean hits I've ever seen in my life.

Yep... I liked the Macho Man Randy Savage quality of it too... Gesser was never the same after that... not that he was really worth a broke dick before it.

Contrary to Akak, I think we will neutralize VY for a while. 2 TDs is NOT a stretch. 1 TD with his arm and 1 with his feet is not hard to envision.
AK was referring to 2 rushing TDs...

I don't see it happening, but then again, I did not think Drew Tate would light us up either...but then again, that was against a young team without an identity as of yet.

VY will not shred tOSU with his legs...

Not wasting my time over there with clowns who post our defensive stats from early/mid season. Our offense gave our defense little rest then, plus the fact our defense was finding itself. Once it did (second half of Purdue game) and Snyder played mainly man-coverage, our defense dominated. When Oklahoma State says that out defense was the best they faced last year, I'll take their word over some boisterous Texas fans.

I like the one how we "bought" our national championship team.
OR
The one which went " OSU has NO running backs, and NO POTENTIAL running backs" also is a side-splitter. (though that was in a different part of the thread).OR That and the "take you and your cheating team somewhere else"

If it were not for the early responders in burnt orange to that thread I'd swear it was like leaping back into a mirror image of bucknuts.com
Thankfully there do seem to be some sensible boosters for the orange cause -- but like Mili said when it spirals downward to selective memory about how tOSU's defense was an questionable (early) vs strong (late season) squad, what's the point in joining the discussion.

Is there a Longhorn site more like this, sure full of homers - but homers with a brain and a willingness to chat about their favorite team(s) -- rather than just make it an electronic bar-fight?

Bowl games and OOC games are an abberation when it comes to evaluating teams for the most part; you simply don't know enough about, or play enough of the other team to get an accurate view of their team. Consistencies over the course of conference play is usually a better gauge of a team's strengths and weaknesses than one performance at the end of the year, w/ the exception of maybe the national title game.

That said, I would concede that the Rose Bowl wasn't entirely accurate as well, and should be taken w/ a grain of salt. By grain of salt, I dont' mean that I expect Vince to run for 200 yards and score 5 TD's on all big 10 teams. What I do mean though, it that I think its reasonable that Vince will continue to hurt teams on the ground, and in the air as a corrolary, and from that, 2-3 TD's accounted for in a game is not at all improbable. Overall though, Texas is a very strong, and well-regarded defensive team, and the majority of the season's games confirm that. Don't look to Okie Lite fans to gauge your opinion of the Texas defense, any more than you would listen to us "boisterous" Texas fans about it. Do, however, take faith in our nationally ranked scoring defense, total defense, and returning starters at all positions to determine our worth.

And as for the VY love, screw homerism, and screw Vince. It aint about one guy. We love the guy and we love the team, but more importantly, we love the school, and me talking about him is merely as an aspect of the character of this team that I put my faith in come the season. Vince however is an exceptional player and happens to be the one most likely to validate that faith and exemplify that character, and we're glad to have him. Moving on....

I'm not sure I understand your logic here. Even though they're in the same conference, OK St. didn't play Texas more times last year than they played OSU, or more times than Michigan played Texas. The point being made by Bucks fans is that there are two teams that played both Texas and OSU last year, and both of them had substantially less success on offense against OSU. The obvious comment that consistency is best determined by analyzing multiple games isn't really relevant. One of those common opponents went so far as to say that OSU's was the best defense they'd seen all year. Is that observation somehow invalid because OSU isn't in the BigXII?

If you want to bring up Northwestern, Iowa, and so forth as a couterpoint (going back to earlier posts), there's no difficulty in seeing that early last season OSU wasn't performing well. Unfortunately for Texas, they won't be playing the early-'04 OSU team. If the Bucks play in early '05 at the same level as they played in late '04, you guys are gonna hit a buzz saw, on both sides of the ball.

If bowl games are an aberration, then why do they even have them? Is the national title game a joke because the two teams "don't play enough of each other?" During regular season, you get only a week to prepare for your opponent (with exceptions for bye weeks). For bowl games you get a month or more to prepare...there's no reason for you to not know your opponent more than any other team that season. Also, performance over the entire course of a season doesn't always show the true picture. Ohio State is a great example. We had lost a record 14 players to the NFL draft from the previous season, and were essentially a brand new team. It took quite a while for the team to gel. Tressel even said that they didn't know who they were at the beginning of the season, but now they do. We lost starters in two positions on each side of the ball (RB, OL, DE, and CB), and what we lost at RB really isn't that much of a loss. We should pick up right where we left off last year, and probably will be even better than we were at the end of last season. If we bring it the way we did against Michigan and Oklahoma State, playing at night in The Shoe, then Texas will not stand a chance.
