As a precaution, [Selvin] Young will not be returning kicks this season (he suffered a season-ending broken ankle on a KO return at Arkansas in 2004) although he is expected to give Texas' punt return game the explosiveness it lacked last season.
I must have been confused, I thought Selvin and Ramonce were returning kickoffs. I'm also surprised that he's returning punts if Brown is worried about injuries.

We Longhorn fans love him because he is extremely effective. A ridiculously high % of his drives result in TDs.
Do you remeber what the actual percentage was, I was blown away when I originaly saw it, but that was some time ago. It was one of the main arguements for VY over Chance. I am sure that it has changed now

Well cedric benson was a top-5 nfl pick. You cant argue that he gets as much attention as he does because of anything else other than how exciting he is to watch, im not talking about longhorn fans, im talking about the national view of Vince Young.

42% for his career is what I have been told, about the same as a lot of good teams do in the red zone (hint).

How many kicks has each team had blocked in the past few years? I know OSU didn't have any blocked last year.
I looked it up and neither team had a kick blocked in 2004. In 2003 OSU had a kick blocked and UT had a punt blocked. It seems there is a strong likelyhood that blocked kicks will not occur in this game.

OSU is replacing the long snapper, Kyle Andrews, who was a three year starter and an absolute stud on special teams. He snapped for P Andy Groom (Ray Guy finalist), P BJ Sanders (Ray Guy winner), and K Mike Nugent (02 Groza finalist, 04 Groza winner). Andrews put together quite a resume in Columbus; walked on in 2001 and made an emergency start in the Outback Bowl, never gave up the position after that ... started the following 39 consecutive games.

Replacing him is a huge concern for me. I think we botched the very first or second long snap in the Spring Game -- can't recall exactly. New long snappers, new holders, new kickers, new punters ... the potential is there for it to be ugly, at least at the start of the season.

I'd be absolutely shocked to see Selvin back returning any type of kick. If he indeed returns kicks, it could definitely be a mistake. I think we have more than enough able bodies to return kickoffs than risk another injury to Selvin. If they put him back there, Shame on them!!

Nobody (lazy bastards) confirmed my previous thought that PSU had blocked a Nugent field goal attempt, so I had to look it up myself. PSU did block a 49 yard attempt in last years game.

However, I am not going to expect blocked kicks in this game. Unless we get UT backed up deep in their own end of the field, I don't see us coming with a lot of pressure on most punts. Likewise, I don't expect UT to block any punts since we won't have to punt all game. Expect a lot of kick-offs, though.

When Michigan was punting out of their end zone we still put 10 men in the box with Ginn as the lone returner. A questionable play call for what might have been a blocked punt for possibly a TD...but with a returner like Ginn it's a pretty tough decision.

that is an interesting call, one theory is that you can afford to go after it because ginn can create on his own, but wouldn't you wnat to give him some blockers at midfield, tough call indeed. I don't know if I go after a punt all year if im am tOSU
