Been busy at work

After I started getting involved on here...I got realy busy at work and this thread is huge and mvoes real quickly. I havn't had time to keep up.

What is the latest on Smith starting the UT game?

Also, what are you guys thoughts on Ohio State covering the chalk in the Miami OH game? I think its around 14.5.

Smith will be starting against UT. Before the season Tressel's going to have his way with him in extra workouts... but from JT's comments that should be it as long as Troy gives it his all (he's never failed to do that). Fitting punishment since he didn't actually do anything wrong, but JT wants to drill into him how important class actually is.

As for the Miami game, we have respect for their talent, but we should wear them down as the game comes to a close. Here's the official game thread (some humorous homers who think Hawk and Ginn pale in comparison to their players):

I have my own opinions on how tOSU should go about the game on the 10th but I am curious, if you (the individual memebers of BP) were coach of The Ohio State University, what would your gameplan look like? I thought about this after Jwin said that ya'll should wear down miami as the game comes to a close. I am not going to agree or disagree(i know, shocking) with anything said, I am just very curious.

I'd run mostly a spread offense to keep away from that D-Line of yours with an occasional run thrown in the keep you honest. I don't think we can grind it out on the ground with you guys, especially it being only the second game of the year and our run game will probably not be developed to it's potential yet. Maybe if we got a bit of a lead then I would try three yards and a cloud of dust, with an occasional play action thrown in... once again to keep the defense honest.

I think spreading the field and using all of our talent at reciever will be the name of the game. I'd love to see a dominating running attack this year to go along with the passing attack, but I don't think September 10th will be the best day to try that out.

Ask VY to beat you through the air. Take away the deep ball, and try and make him beat you with 8-10 yard completions. Vary our schemes and blitzes, leaving your OL guessing who will actually be rushing. Do not attempt to stop VY behind the line very often, be very content with limiting his big play potential to a few plays with his feet.

Your defense has two stud DTs, but only average DE's (in terms of pass rushing ability). Attack through the air. We may run alright against texas, but take what the defense gives us. If we cannot succeed from the I, please do not stick with it.

4 & 5 wide should be used too, but the primary formation should be the shotginn: 2 WR (holmes & gonzo), 1 shot-ginn WR (hmm), 1 TE (hamby), 1 RB (pittman)... move Teddy around a lot. Actually give him the ball on reverses (too often faked it to him when he had serious real-estate). Swap Ginn and Smith on one play, but don't get too cute with trickery.

On a Holmes KR, bring Ginn around for a possible reverse. Could freeze the D a little, regardless of who emerges with the ball.

Bring Teddy in at corner once, to terrify GDavis... :)

Yup. Troy's punishment for attending the camp will be to take extra private practices (against the Texas/scout team), do additional workouts (in preparation for Texas) and watch extra game film (of Texas).

Poor guy.

Poor Texas -- sounds kind of like 2x what JT might have had TS do to make ready for sCUM

If I am Tressel, on offense I am going to run you to death. Quick hitches, 4 and 5 wide sets, quick hitters out of a 4 set spread, no huddle. IMO you will see Boeckmann and Zwick most of the game. Rotate the O line and receivers, and bring it to you for 4 qtrs. On the D I am concentrating on keeping contain with pressure from inside and outside, rotating the line, and perhaps playing a 3-4 with Marcus Freeman on the field as the 4th LB. Delayed blitzes, mixing and disguising coverages, and a good deal of man until VY proves he can hurt me with the pass.

I know this has nothing to do with recent discussion, but I figured I'd let you all know. We might as well lock this thread down.

The Football gods have Spoken!

I just beat Texas in my OSU Dynasty 35-14 on Heisman Difficulty.
So let it be written, so let it be done.
It's official. Write it down.

What makes you think it's gonna be TB and JZ? ANd why would you rotate your O-Line?

Key on D is to keep contain. I feel comfortable that the secondary will match up fine with Texas' Wide outs. It is paramount that Young's abilities be limited as best as possible. I suspect OSU spy's him a bit.

we'll definantly spy on VY with at least one of our backers, and ours can actually run unlike scUMs
i would NOT spy VY, as that could lead to more big plays... the key is to keep contain with the DEs and the LBers staying in their lanes and not over-pursuing... let the secondary man up, and set the dogs loose... bring people from every angle and every position. drop Kudla back in coverage, and bring Hawk or Salley... mix in various zone blitz looks with straight man blitz looks... confuse the crap out of VY... i want VY to burn 2 Time Outs in the first quarter... TURN THE HORNS OVER. that is crucial.

on O, keep them guessing. mix up packages. come out in the I 3-wide, and shift into the shot-Ginn. come out in the shot-Ginn and shift into an H-back power look... take what the D gives you. run enough to keep 'em honest, and try to get TG2, Holmes, and Gonzo on the same side of the field at least a few times, which is an obvious mismatch in favor of the Buckeyes... the Horn D will have to pick their poison, and we will have to make them pay... PROTECT THE BALL. our O moved the ball fine against Purdue, but put the rock on the ground... contrary, against scUM and OkSt, we did not turn the ball over, and blew them out.
