damn....I've never seen anybody give ALL of our LBs that much props. AJ gets his share of praise, Bobby C gets some mention for being underrated, and Schlegel gets some props.....but Freeman? I don't think I've ever heard that.

Freeman's gotten love elsewhere, maybe that was CFN's LB preview in the OSU thread. But yes, its a great and exhaustive writeup, as usual.

I really don't understand the people that poo-poo this site... when it clearly is spot on about so many different teams. They'd rather go to ESPN and read a couple generic paragraphs that a grandmother who follows Michigan football would know about OSU.

Hello BB73,

I only hope the game lives up to many of our expectations. As a Texas fan I have several areas that concern me, as I am sure Buck fans do as well. My chief concerns are :

1. Linebacker- Will we be able to field two outside linebackers that are ready to make plays vs. the run and pass?

2. Defensive End- As evidenced against Michigan, we struggled at times to pressure the QB from the outside. It would help if we could get more pressure from this position.

3. Pass Defense - How will the match-up vs. your receiver's turn out? Alot depends on how aggressive the OSU play calling is and how well we put pressure on the QB.

4. Special Teams - I'm most concerned with the big play ability of Ginn in this regard. Our kickoff coverage has got to be better. Too many long returns last year and not only vs. Michigan. Not to mention questions as to how our new kicker will perform.

5. Receivers - As noted several times already, our receivers have much to prove. Unlike many posters who point to Shipley, I would like to think Sweed will be the difference maker this year. This will be the kids 3rd year in the program and he has all the tools to create match-up problems. He has to make plays against OSU.

6. Running Back - Quite simply, if we can run the ball we will win the game. That's what makes this game so interesting. Our strength on O vs your strength on D. Our rb's are unproven, but talented, while your lb's are first rate.

Your linebackers are not the best but are certainly good. This should be a good match up to watch as our line works on your line and linebackers.

If your DE's start off strong, it could have a major effect on the game.

Few teams have a secondary to match our talent at WR this year. Holmes, Ginn, Hall and Gonzalez will give many teams fits this year. If Smith/Zwick/Boeckman have time in the pocket, your secondary is going to get torched.

Special teams wins games in Tresselball. Without Nugent booting kickoffs through the uprights anymore, there will be more chances for kick returns for our opponents. But we have been covering well when someone got a rare chance to return one. The Ginn/Holmes punt return duo will cause headaches this year for our opponents. Our primary kick returner from last year (Mo Hall) is gone. But I get the feeling that Ginn and Holmes will do just fine. :)

Your receivers were all highly rated kids coming in. They should be a very talented bunch. The problem is going to be getting the ball to them. Vince is not exactly laser accurate. And finding time to get through his progressions may be an issue if we send a LB every down, which we love to do.

If Selvin Young is healthy and ready to go, then you'll have a talented back we need to contain. Most of his success will be attributed to your talented offensive line. If they get the push everyone is expecting, it will be up to our linebackers to limit the damage he he does. And personally, I like our chances in that arena. We have six linebackers that are a good hybrid of gazelle and gorilla.

Question about your WRs: They are pretty good, and can no doubt adjust to the ball well...but none of them seem to have great size. Are there any of them you can just throw the ball up there and expect them to come down with it - regardless of coverage? Or make spectacular catches on poorly thrown balls?

Could it be a problem if our DBs are physical with them at the line?

I like to think our CBs handled some polished receivers last year in Mark Clayton (OU - 5'11") and Terrence Murphy (A&M - 6'1"). Although, to be fair to T.Murphy, McNeal didn't exactly get time to throw.

Braylon Edwards was dominant early and opened the door for Breaston. Neither was very effective late in the game (receiving) - after 3.5 quarters of some pretty solid hits.

I trust the starters at CB to do a respectable job against your WRs...dunno about how well our less-experienced DBs further down the depth chart will do.

If we have a guy that fits the mold you describe, its Lyons. At 6'4 214 he's a good size receiver with good leaping ability.

I don't see a problem with your guys trying jam them at the line. If they miss, its 6 points. They'll never recover.

We have 3 corners, Cedric Griffin, Tarel Brown, and Aaron Ross, that are pretty close as far as coverage goes. Cedric is probably the best overall in coverage, and Ross and Brown are basically on the same level. Michael Huff would normally be our #1 corner if we had a safety that was able to step in and take over the free safety position. Andrew Kelson should end up being a big time SS, but he has not come far enough along in the passing game to start the season. He may end up spinning down to LB to see the field this year. I'm really not as concerned about our Db's getting beat on the deep ball unless you guys really start hurting us on the ground. Our safeties got burned a few times looking into the backfield. If we can contain you guys on the ground, we should be able to play alot of two deep with our safeties. My concern is getting burned after the catch on the quick hitters. Ginn is very elusive and can turn a hitch or slant pattern into six from anywhere on the field. This one will more than likely be won in the trenches and luckily that is the Horns biggest strength. If we can stop the run without selling out our safeties, we should be okay in the passing game. Tackling the OSU receivers and limiting YAC will be key.

i would guess that 6'3" 230 pound, RS Jr. Roy Hall would be the biggest threat on the jump balls... he has more experience than Lyons, and hauled in a 60+ yarder last season... he doesn't have blazing speed, but he's got the size...

at any rate, with the moves that Santonio Holmes was putting on people last season- he made the AA CB Marlin Jackson from scUM look like a rookie at the goal line- we don't even need to worry about jump balls...

and look out for Teddy Ginn to line up in the backfield in shotgun formations and take a direct snap... i guarantee he gets that call more than a couple times this year...

While we recruited him as a TE I think he plays WR as a freshman until he grows into the TE position. I have never been this impressed by any UT player without seeing him in practice. Well one other time, and that was Vincent Young.

Randy, I really don't see any way that we don't redshirt him. We recruited him as a tight end and he is not big enough. If we use him at wide reciever he would just be added to the ever growing list of touted young wide outs on our team. So I ask again, Have you heard somehting I haven't?
