Game Thread Game Two: #1 Ohio State 24, #2 Texas 7 (9/9/06)

Ohio State coach Jim Tressel vs. Texas coach Mack Brown — Some Ohio State fans think Tressel blew it last season against Texas. They might be right. Using a quarterback tandem of Justin Zwick and Smith, Tressel seemed to ignore the fact that Smith rallied the Buckeyes into a winning position. Zwick was sent out for the final possession, lost a fumble, and that was that. Last season at this time, few people would give Brown an edge in the big-game coaching department. But things look different when viewed through a national-championship lens. Brown is more relaxed and better prepared for big occasions. EDGE: Mack Brown.

I'm sorry, but there is no way that Brown gives an edge to UT over Tressel at OSU. Consider these facts:

against major rival (OU for UT, scUM for OSU):
Brown: 3-5 (.375)
Tressel: 4-1 (.800)

in bowl games
Brown: 5-3 (.625)
Tressel: 4-1 (.800)

BCS victories
Brown: 2 in 8 years
Tressel: 3 in 5 years

Classic example of a member of the media only remembering what happened 10 minutes ago.

It's really nice right now (about 7:00 PM CST). Until Tuesday we were getting scorched with 100 degrees plus. It just depends on the weather patterns that change on a dime; there is even a chance of rain for Saturday.

Hope you have a great time here or there watching. I've seen quite a few Buckeye fans in downtown this afternoon.

To expound on what was said earlier, I would like to expound a little.

It is true that there is a difference b/w practice speed, and game speed. The difference is that the "practice" guys won't be trying to knock him into next week. I would doubt if Mack even lets them touch him. How is he going to react after taking a hit like Hawk put on Vince last year? He will be getting hit, it might not be Hawk on Vince type, or a Darrion Scott type on Gesser, but he will be getting hit. I would imagine that they will hit him every chance they get if they think that they won't get flagged. Not dirty play, call it "situational awareness", they need to let him be "aware" that he is in a bad "situation".

Austin...

It has been pleasant this week, but is getting warmer. High supposed to be 98, but humidity has been very low this week. It has been 85%, but this week has dropped to 30% average. Should be a nice evening, unless some rain comes in. Plan on grilling some Pittsburg,Tx hot links, which I haven't been able to do in over 2 months because of the heat. If any of you tOSU fans have time, stop and get some in most of the grocery stores in East Texas. They come all tied together, and leave them that way until they are done on the grill ! Just poke them with a fork a couple of times while they cook, otherwise the grease will make them explode!! LOL Once they are done, just separate them, and throw them between a piece of bread. Delicious, and heart healthy!!! LOLOL Hope you fans have a GREAT time visiting Texas, not just Austin.

i've said it before on this thread and I'll say it again. Colt is going to surprise most buckeyes only because most it seems like buckeye fans have such low expectations for him this weekend. Is he going to play like a 5th year senior? No. But is he going to play like someone starting in his second college game? I don't think so either.

That's what we said about Justin Zwick 2 years ago too..........look where that got us. :wink2:
