Game Thread Game Two: #1 Ohio State 24, #2 Texas 7 (9/9/06)

How are those WEAK arguments? The point was that the QB position was crucial to Texas' run last year. Alot like saying Clarret was crucial to ours in '02. We proved how important Clarret was in '02 through our play in '03.

Besdies, you made my point for me. I watched the entire OK State game and it wasn't a close game. They trailed big at half but VYoung killed them in the 2nd half. Without that amazing effort, they lose-but it wasn't close. Is that weak?

Do you think Justin Zwick would've bought enough time on the huge play in the final drive against Michigan to hit Gonzo and ultimately win the game? Hell no. Troy showed against Michigan and Notre Dame all the tools needed to be a great NFL star in the mold of DMcNabb. This year is his year. He has better pocket presence than Young and throws a better mid-range and long ball than VYoung. Coupled with a solid run game, nice O-line, and his ability to scramble and buy time, he is the guy to beat for the Heisman. Is that weak?

Freshman QB/Freshman OT

Just wanted all the Texas fans to see the below pic because this is the only thing our Defensive Coordinator is not going to throw at your Freshman QB and OT.

 Just felt like a little smack talking this morning!!

Nothing against TS, he's a good QB, but until he PROVES he is better than VY, I won't buy it. VY played TWO of the greatest post season performances, the one against USC possibly the SINGLE greatest performance in college history. I know all of these charges weren't made in this post, so I'm responding to the "TS is better than VY" thought that's running through the last few emails. My point is--you can't claim he's better until he proves it--needless to say, he hasn't proved it, yet.

"...throws a better mid-range and long ball than VYoung?" Vince threw for over 3000 yards last year. I'm guessing maybe just a few of those were mid-range and long balls.

Your move.

Okay, let me give this a shot...

VY is gone. Without his greatest preformances in college football history (not disputing that claim by the way) we only need T. Smith to preform up to his own level (which is pretty damn high even if it's not VY's level) to have a solid shot at beating you.

I agree with this post, and I'm not disputing the fact that TS may prove instrumental in you winning our game--my point is that people are writing that TS is better than VY--until TS has a season for the ages, this talk is lame.

Up to this point in their respective career's, they are pretty similar. People here who think he is as good as Vince are fooling themselves, but he has the opportunity to be just as good or better. And that fact is something Texas fans just aren't willing to accept. Take a look at what Troy has done in the Fiesta Bowl and twice against Michigan. 350+ yards and a win in each of them. Troy has gotten better with every snap he has had at Ohio State. He is one of the favorites for the Heisman this year and is poised to lead his team on a run at the national championship. So there are comparisons to Vince, as much as Texas fans don't want to admit it.

I don't think Texas fans are disputing the comparisons. What they are disputing is that until T. Smith goes 13-0 and leads our team to a national championship it is hard to say that he is better. What VY did last year is a tough act to follow. Can Troy achieve something similar? HELL YES. But he hasn't yet, and that's what the Texas fans are getting at I think.

And I hope Texas fans here, I know for most of you this isn't the case, aren't looking for any kind of envy on this board. I know you are probably getting a lot of that from other schools in Texas and from Oklahoma, but you aren't going to get it from us.

I agree. I think with the two scUM games and the Fiesta Bowl hes put himself up there as a great player in Ohio State history, but Vince was one of the all time greats with the Rose Bowl performances. If Troy continues what he was doing last year and leads the team to a title I think he joins that level, but until he proves it Vince is better, IMO.

The last few posts have calmed me down, as the posters agree that TS is really good, but he has yet to prove that he will be as good as Vince. Hey, TS has the easy job--he can try to prove he's as good while he's at OSU. Any QB unlucky enough to follow VY at Texas has to do so evry day of his career.
