Game Thread Game Two: #1 Ohio State 24, #2 Texas 7 (9/9/06)

Ive said all along that I believe this defense front to back is much better than the 2004 group. In the first 6 games that defense gave up an average of just shy of 22 points per game. What killed the record (going 3-3) was a very, very inept offense. Nothing could be further from the truth about the 2006 offense.

Thats exactly why I am less worried about this defense than in 2004. Now lets hope Tressel doesn't go into turtle mode too early in games like in 2004. Playing conservatively up by a TD or more is fine with a great defense but not with this defense early in the season. That is my only worry.

I love Troy and I love the Browns, but I wouldn't be upset if they took a player where they might have a higher need. On the other hand, I am not at all thrilled or even mildly excited about the Browns current QB situation, so if they pulled the trigger on another qb, I wouldn't be too shook up about it. I agree with CB though, if they took Quinn instead, the city would be PISSED. Especially if Troy won the Heisman like you mentioned, because if that happened, no one would understand..."how could that other guy be better", ours just won the Hesiman.

Back to the Texas/OSU game...what's the general consensus of the population down there as to what's going to happen? Are most Texans predicting a win or are they on the fence because of our high powered offense and what not?

We're of course, very excited about the game. There hasn't been much prediction about what kind of team we'll have, because, frankly, we have no idea. We don't know how our strong offensive players will function without VY. Most of us are pretty confident about our defense, but as the old saying goes, the best defense is a good offense. No one I know is expecting a big win, but no one thinks we'll get blown out. Personally, I think the OSU skill players will make the difference in the fourth quarter, unless we get some turnovers. To that point, the more I think about last year, the more I'm impressed with our win. At OSU, at night, PLUS we lost the crucial turnover battle, AND we still pulled it out.

I would say that most people are VERY CAUTIOUSLY optimistic. Most are hoping for a win but understand that there is a very real chance for a loss. I think that you will find that we are very excited about our team.

Sounds like most Ohio State fans last year at this time. I have a feeling this year's game will be just as close as last year's. Just hope it goes our way this time. Way too many unknowns right now to tell who has an advantage.

One thing I don't like is OSU's recent record in away games (13 losses in 5 years under Coach Tressel: 8 on the road, 4 at home, 1 in a bowl)

Need some help from the Texas fans...

The Official Texas Visiting thread doesn't exactly get a lot of traffic, so I'm gonna post here cause I got a pretty urgent question:

I got my plane tickets, and a rental car. Some questions about the hotel: I got reservations at the La Quinta at Highland Mall. $78 a night, looks pretty decent. Is it Good? Bad? Should I find somewhere else? It looks like its 3 miles from the stadium. Is there a shuttle that goes from Highland Mall to campus? I take it traffic and parking is probably just as bad as it is in Columbus on game day. Every hotel from 6th St. to campus is booked solid.

To keep the clutter down, you guys could answer me in a PM or answer in the visiting thread in the tickets section.

Thanks in advance guys!
