has ever wondered why houston can't have a nfl team worthy of the name should wonder no more..
I know. Mario Williams isn't worth a #1 pick.

Damn, Ohio State's defense last year must have sucked.
According to ESPN, they got beat by a team that uses a remedial, one read offense. Led by a shitty QB who once got sacked by Oklahoma.

Sorry to derail the thread. Again. Speaking of bands, is OSU bringing the full band?
I do think that there is some correlation to draft picks, talent level, success of team, but as football is such a team sport, I don't think that the correlations are direct. If you went by the drafting of kids from teams, you would think that NC State had the most dominant defensive line in college football history. Everybody knew that tOSU's defense was great last year, and that SA Holmes was a great receiver, and they all played up to that potential last year solidifying their spots in the draft. The way that tOSU ended 2004 and performed in all of 2005 shows that the program did a helluva lot with the talent they recruited. And they lost to one team that had their best offensive and defensive players drafted #3 and #7, and another team that had a strong core of veteran players, so I don't buy any argument that they should have beaten those less "talented" teams. Also, we can't forget that Whittner and Holmes left school early, so those draftees did not take advantage of their four years of playing time to live up to their talent levels. In a way, you could use the five first-rounders from OSU as criticism of the program. When a team has so many talented players, should they be losing to teams (Penn St., Texas) with less?
...
Do these people even watch football? Yeah, I saw what they said about AJ Hawk and shook my head. I guess if they didn't invent deficiencies of top draft picks, they wouldn't be doing their job of providing tabloid sports news.
I can truly now sympathize with you folks regarding ESPN's not-so-hidden agendas (agendae?). Your collective reaction to ESPN's coverage of Ohio State's "transgressions" last year is awfully similar to how Texas fans are reacting at the moment.
