Game Thread Game Two: #1 Ohio State 24, #2 Texas 7 (9/9/06)

I'm hoping that our first-ever series with Texas ends up like our first-ever (and only) series with Texas' Big 12 counterparts Oklahoma. OU won the first game, at our place, in a game which saw the visitors jump out to a lead only to have us clamp them down and rally to take the lead only and have the visitors win on a late score (sound familiar?). We then went to OU, controlled the game throughout, and won by 10 points in a game that wasn't as close as the score implies.

Mili, sounds like a reasonable scenario to me.

Provided that Beanie is as advertised, and even though he looked that way against the nation's top high school kids, they were high school kids, Ohio State will bring an awesome offensive potential to this game. First, a quick big play threat, capable of breaking a game wide open. Second, a scrambling quarterback capable of breaking the big pass or run. Third, one of the nation's best rushing attacks, capable of controlling a clock.

I think this year we are going to see Tresselball has the man would like to play it. I also think that this game is going to be a lot less closer than many people think. :wink2:

Even more thoughts, if that's possible

There is another competition besides OSU/Texas on Sept. 9th. It's Snead vs McCoy for starting QB. If McCoy gets the nod, it's his shot to set himself up for the season as the starter. If he freaks out, and can't handle the pressure, expect Snead to get the nod in the second quarter, by the latest. Brown pulled his starting QB three years ago vs OU after the FIRST PLAY (an INT) and brought in Young.

I saw McCoy play in a scrimmage last fall. Big kid, faster than you might think. He has a good arm, with good touch. Also, he is from a 2A school, but he'll have played against a pretty good defense for over one year.

Also, Brown might keep the starting QB a secret, until right before gametime, just to give the OSU staff more to prepare for. I just hope he doesn't pull a "Tressel" and rotate the QB's.

Lastly, will Texas come into the game with the fire in their hearts, like last year? That remains to be seen.

I've been hoping for that since they landed snead... it would just be fair. There are already plenty of other parallels with TS' development, a big bowl win, a stud freshman RB making waves ... it would only be fitting for the home team to rotate QBs and set the stage for the away team to win the MNC.

Defending the honor of my conference

As it is often written how poor the Big 12 was last year, (we were fairly wretched throughout the season), we were pretty damn good in the bowl season. I believe we finished 5-2, beating USC (#1) Oregon (#6) the SEC (South Carolina), The Big 10 (Michigan), and other conferences, as well. Also, our two losses were close, by 10 points total, to the SEC's Alabama and ACC's Clemson. No big point, just wanted to get that off my chest.

ok well this game is officially over.....in his press confrence today mack said that the job is colts to start the spring but that, " looks like we could go with 2 qb's to start the season"

if this is the case then all i could do would be shake my head.

i can't believe that after major/simms and mock/vince that he would even still think about this
