Longhorns running back arrested after deputies find marijuana in car

AUSTIN, Texas (AP) -- Texas running back Ramonce Taylor, who scored a touchdown in the Longhorns' Rose Bowl win over Southern California, was arrested Sunday by Bell County sheriff's deputies who said they found marijuana in a backpack in his car.

Taylor was arrested for possession of marijuana over five pounds, a second-degree felony. A second-degree felony could be punishable by two to 20 years in prison and a fine of up to $10,000.

Formal charges had not yet been filed. Taylor remained in custody in the Bell County Jail.

Deputies said they also found a live round of ammunition in the vehicle.

According to the arrest report, deputies responded to a report of a large fight involving as many as 100 people at a pecan farm in Little River, a community about 40 miles north of Austin. Deputies also said they received a call from someone who had been at the fight and complained that a window on his vehicle had been broken. That caller turned out to be Taylor.

While interviewing Taylor at a convenience store, deputies were told by other officers at the fight scene that Taylor had been involved and had threatened to return with a gun. Taylor was placed in handcuffs.

Taylor told deputies he didn't have a gun and gave them permission to search his vehicle. Deputies reported finding the bullet and the backpack with the marijuana.

One of Texas' most versatile players, Taylor scored 15 touchdowns last season, including a 30-yard scoring run in the Rose Bowl, which Texas won 41-38. The win gave Texas its first outright national championship since 1969.

Seriously, how stupid is this kid? Call the police because someone broke your car window, let the police search your car, and oh, by the way, you have enough weed to supply a Tom Petty concert in your backpack.

That's OK. Cedric also had a pot bust go away for lack of evidence it was his, and we had a 4 star runningback Eric Hardeman get busted dealing a few months after getting kicked off the team. He is (or maybe was) doing hard time. I'm not sure what's up with our runningbacks.

I also don't know what video you are talking about, and it sounds like it's better that way.

At least he didn't lie on the report and say he had thousands of dollars worth of CDs, stereo equipment, and clothes in there...then again, not many people approach that level of stupidity.

As usual, what a pile of crap for the whole team...no matter what team...when a player considers himself immuned from behavior expectations. The golden opportunity, that too. bla, bla, bla.

randy: tape was reference to our Clarett who claimed items stolen from his suv...the incident started an embarrassing steam roller of negative events for us Bucks...that still rankle a bunch of us.

Regarding Texas' O Line, I'd remind you that we return the top players in our rotation, with the exception of Jonathon Scott. The other two guys, Will Allen and Mike Garcia, while solid players, were never truly stars, and I don't believe were drafted. The beef of the lineup, Scott notwithstanding, include C Lyle Sendlein, G Kasey Studdard, T Justin Blalock, and T Tony Hills. All of them have all-conference ability and a few All America; as many have mentioned before, Tony Hills was considered a no-drop-off backup to Jon Scott. Scott is a little taller, longer armed, and more experienced, but Hills is no doubt stronger, better techniqued, and just as athletic. We feel good about this unit being as strong or stronger as a whole than last year's group, so that would infere there will be limited "pushing around" of our boys by the tOSU D line, good as it may be.

The battle up front will be the headliner of the matchup, make no mistake, but this could be a great opportunity for the Texas' O Line to establish their identity, and their dominance, in the post-VY era, for everyone to see. You can bet they will be itching to prove their worth to the nation, and I expect nothing less than full execution.

I had all but given up on him until this happened. He had character issues in high school. No problem, lots of kids do. He'll get those worked out after the UT coaches and his teammates get ahold of him. Then the incident before the Rose Bowl. No problem, he'll learn from that mistake and change his ways. Then the grades. No problem, he'll go to ACC this year, get his grades in order, then be back in time for summer practice (while in the back of my mind thinking, "this guy's going to end up getting kicked off the team for something or other, it's just a matter of when").

Being part of a football team can be a very positive experience. I'm sure the experience has changed many troubled high schoolers into productive members of society, and in some cases, helped them become millionaires in the NFL rather than helpless in jail. In Ramonce's case, it didn't work. He never changed.

I realize he hasn't been convicted of anything yet, and I don't think we know the whole story. Regarless, he's had too many run-ins for Mack to give him another chance even if he's found innocent.

I hope he gets his shit together, gets a degree from somewhere (hell, he can still graduate from UT, he just can't play football), or goes on to get picked up as a free agent after the 2007 draft. Then, he might change.

Yeah he is pretty GD'd fast. Maybe we should put JC on punt coverage if we are planning on kicking it anywhere near him.
if he holds onto the punt, watch out :p

what will be interesting will be to see how the loss of holmes impacts our punt returns. Gonzalez' outstanding straight-line speed will be great for KR's, but it will be interesting to see if he has enough wiggle for punts, since teams will attempt to kick away from Ginn again (if they keep it in bounds). Gonzo was #3 for both return teams last year, and will be excellent and springing Teddy with that first block in OSU's formation.

With Taylor gone, that means Texas has lost players that scored 62 of their 88 total TD's last season, along with 4 of their 5 top tacklers.

No it means now UTs returning players accounted for 48 TDs rsushing and receiving last year, compared to 28 for tOSU.

I think it is hilarious that anyone beleives a defensive unit as green as yours is better than UTs.

As an aside Jamaal just ran a wind legal 10.23 100 meter to win the Big 12 championship while Brain Robison won the shot with a 68 foot put.

but of course it's not outlandish to say OSU's defenders will be completely lost when UT's QBs (who aren't completely green, b/c they play for texas) run the no-huddle against them.
