Game Thread Game Two: #1 Ohio State 24, #2 Texas 7 (9/9/06)

If Texas throws the ball more than 30 times, we lose. For obvious reasons.

From 99 to 2000 under Applewhite and Simms UT Averaged 34 attempts a game. Last year Texas had 25 attempts or more in 8 of the 13 games and in a couple like Rice (18 attempts) and the Big 12 championships (19) there was no reason to pass. Texas has thrown and will throw more than some of you think.

I hope your right.

I would love for your inexperienced quarterbacks to air it out 30 times.

and as experienced as starters as our qb

I think it's buried somewhere in this mountain of a thread, but someone posted the amount of starts that our "replacements" on defense have...and that's not counting the huge amount of non-starting playing time. Your QBs have yet to even set foot on the field. Not even close to being a valid comparison.

OSU returns players on defense that have a total of 402 tackles.

Laurinithis, Wilson, Pitcock, Patterson, Penton(started when Pitcock was hurt), Richardson, Mitchell, and Jenkins all have started at least a game.

Thats 8 players with starting experience. That doesnt include Marcus Freeman.

Yo, goofus, we're talking about the earlier comparison of your QBs and our defense.

thats what he is pointing out....sure your defenese will have more experience than our qbs, but that does not mean that they won't be green. Its just that our qb's are the greenest of the green.

honestly 402 tackels between 8 players is a little over 50 per person, if they were all equal. i would be willing to bet that one or two players make up the majority of that total

First, if our QB's have to throw 30 passes, it probably means we can't run the ball. Unless of course they're giving us everything underneath, completing 22 or so of those for about 10 yards per completion. In that case, I like our chances. But that's unlikely.

Mili-
If we had a conventional drop-back passer, us having a QB with 45+ plays may spell trouble, but with Smith it's like having a QB and RB in one since so many of his runs are designed.

I guess I was kind of projecting the nature of a game when Vince had to rush 15-20 times. The '06 Rose Bowl aside, that usually meant our RB's had trouble (see OSU game last year and '05 Rose Bowl).

I didn't realize TS was so efficient in that game. Looking at the box score, I see plays of 85, 56, 60, and 68 yards. That means y'all scored quickly and had a fewer than average number of plays (64). I really don't know where I'm going with this, other than to say if OSU has a game like that with so many long plays, we're toast regardless.

What I meant was, if I was a tOSU fan, I'd rather see play distribution like this:

Troy Smith 25 passes, 10 carries
Running backs 35 carries

than this:

Troy Smith 34 passes, 18 carries
Running backs 18 carries

I think Texas will exploit weaknesses in the tOSU defense, not because of lack of talent or individual ability, but because of the lack of playing time as a unit. When the Texas offense gets in the no huddle, an inexperienced defense will find their heads spinning.
