Game Thread Game Two: #1 Ohio State 24, #2 Texas 7 (9/9/06)

Just saw her on Hornfans.

Thanks for the write-up on your recruits, sng. Wells was the only dude I had heard anything about. We are both claiming to have the #1 DE in last year's class (difference between recruiting services, or are they sorted by WDE and SDE?). I'm gonna go on record here and say Eddie Jones is better than Robert Rose.

Nice pic....

I think thats an opinion kind of thing. The one site that ranks Jones higher than Rose the other has Rose over Jones. But Rose is bigger and faster so time will tell. (those numbers come from a Nike Camp)

I agree that this thread needs a definite boost.

Anyone here care to make a bold victory prediction based on one stat (besides final score...duh)? For example...in my opinion, if we keep Texas under 150 yards passing, I think the game is over. Of course turnovers is an easy one to pick at (everyone should win with a +5 TO ratio), but I'm going with passing yards because I don't think a one-dimensional Texas O can put up enough points to beat us. So that's mine.

OSU wins IF we keep Texas under 150 yards passing.

Your thoughts?

I believe that tOSU wins if Texas has more than 150 passing yard. The strength of this texas team is going to be on the ground yet again. A large number of passing yards will mean that the bucks have stopped or slowed our running game, which will lead to a high total of passing yards but i would be willing to bet that there would be more than a couple of ints to go along with that

I see your point HL and I like what you have to say, but I still think that a smart Texas team would try to run a balanced O no matter how strong their running game is. You'd think Mack&Co. are going to want to keep us from putting 8 in the box every play which would basically force your Horns to pass. There are a number of ways you can go with this 150 yds. passing statement though as you could also say that in a blowout by the Bucks (please God!)...UT would be throwing left and right to try and get back in the game. I agree with you on the INTs part completely though. These Frosh QB will probably get a LOT of pressure from our rush ends and blitzing Lbs...so we'll see how they handle it.

I will also say and reitterate that although high passing yards for UT could mean blowout for the Bucks...I still don't think we can lose to a one-dimensional offense.

I think that Texas will be semi-balanced. The running game always has been and always will be our bread and butter under mack brown. He still has that silly stat of being 70-0 when out rushing his opponents at texas.....maybe more by now. We will be under center much more this year and you can bet that Mack would love nothing more than for tOSU to stack the box. It would allow for easier reads for our young QB's and take much of the pressure off of them. I have complete confidence in Pittmans ability to get open against man coverage, and in sweed/finley's ability to flat out athlete just about any corner/saftey in the nation that is man to man on them

If Texas throws the ball more than 30 times, we lose. For obvious reasons.

I'd like to see a run-pass distribution of something like 45-25.

Here's one for OSU. If th OSU running backs have combined for less than 25 carries, they lose. I guess a related prediction would be if Troy Smith has more than 45 plays rushing and passing, they lose.

EH, I see where you're going with this, but you may not be as secure as you think with this. In our Fiesta Bowl spanking of Notre Dame, Troy Smith had 41total plays (28 passing, 13 rushing) for 408 yards. Our running back"s" (i.e. Pittman alone) had only 21 carries for 136 yards. So, just because our RBs have less than 25 carries and Smith has 40+ plays doesn't mean we can't run it up. If we had a conventional drop-back passer, us having a QB with 45+ plays may spell trouble, but with Smith it's like having a QB and RB in one since so many of his runs are designed.

I expect the tOSU defense will focus on stopping the run forcing the QBs to throw. I'll side with Texas needing 150 yards passing or more to win. But, I don't think that will be a problem, as I expect 200+ yards.

xray, I'm surprised you're not expecting 300+ yards, considering the fact that your QB will have a whole one game under his belt before playing OSU.
