Game Thread Game Two: #1 Ohio State 24, #2 Texas 7 (9/9/06)

There seems to be a common misperception among Buckeye fans that you will have one of the best offenses in the country next year. I don't know why anyone would think that given that the tOSU was average last year, yes average.

If you insist at only looking at he games that Smith started, in those 9 regular season games tOSU averaged 401 yards against teams that averaged giving up 403. 6 of those teams averaged giving up over 400 yards. The tOSU offense was average last year, and the only honest conclusion one can reach is that the greatest likelyhood is that tOSU will be average on offense again next year.

Considering the results against the only two decent defenses you faced last year, Texas and Penn State, I do think tOSU can be held to 14 points (or less) on the road.

Wow xray...if JimmyT would have known that the outcome of the Texas game this year would be based solely on last year's offensive stats, I bet he would have dumped 50+ on half of the opponents we faced late-season last year like we could have. If you watched our O the last 7 games of the year (averaged something like 39 down that stretch), you would know that we pretty much stop throwing (especially deep) midway through the 3rd quarter, but then again it is obvious that you don't watch Buckeye football so it's a moot point. Also, you do realize that the PSU game and the Texas game were in the front half of the season right? When Troy was actually just getting into his rhythm/starting. C'mon man, you have to see how ridiculous you're getting.

Engineer...it does worry me a bit about the night game performances. I'm not going to lie, though I think this one will be different. :) I'm just praying that our O will be VERY diverse...go for td's instead of fg's and Troy will have a coming out party after a warmup with Northern Illinous.

If only we played in the Big 12 so we could run up 60 ponts on Kansas, Baylor, and Colorado maybe we could put up some impressive stats.

Those schools actually had pretty good defenses last year. Their offenses were just pathetic, so tOSU probably would have beat them 28-3 or somesuch as opposed to 49-21.

Big 12 wasn't bad last year.

Texas was the only National competitor out of the Big 12 though. usually A&M is good, Oklahoma, Oky State ain't bad, Colorado, Iowa State usually competes, and Nebraska is usually good along with K-State... However this they were down a bit. So the big 12 IMO is a good conference they just weren't deep last year.

As regauring if tosu should've won last year... It could've gone either way and I believe we blew it more than you won it. We missed the TD, missed a FG, missed a saftey, took dumb penalties, never attempted at the endzone or long ball after Santonio's TD, and we switched around Qb's. However you guys came into Columbus and you guys deserved just as much to win that game. I figure if the game is decided by 1-7 points then honestly either team deserved to win. What Impresses me most was you came into the shoe at night and infront of one of our most hostile crowds and won. Texas Deserved the game but so did OSU however we didnt' make our own breaks and you did.

Big 12

The Big 12 was down, but we had a lot of young teams that came on strong at the end of the year. We were 5-2 in bowls, not bad, and our two losses were close. Nebraska beat Michigan, UT beat OSU, we did well in straight match games against the Big 10. Someone clue me in on who won the Iowa State/Iowa game, I'm too lazy to research, but I beleive the Big 12 ended up being underrated.

OU beat Oregon, the number 6 team in their bowl, don't see how you can't consider them a national contender.

I stand by my argument that you can't go back and count what should have happened. The beauty and problem with sports is what happens happens, and no amount of wishing ever changes it. To be fair, you do say UT deserved the game, and that teams have to take advantage of their breaks, and I appreciate that.

ISU won.

I hate to compare conferences on bowl games, b/c I think it was pretty clear that Michigan was a better team than Nebraska last year, but it was obvious they didnt want to be in the Alamo bowl last year.

If you had your choice who would you of rather played during the regular season last year, Michigan or Nebraska.

The big XII was looked on as being down, b/c they didnt have a team that was a top 25 team in talent besides Texas. This caused some teams rankings to balloon even tho they were playing games against some weak teams in the big XII. i.e. Texas Tech. If they were in a deeper conference last year, and didnt play sisters of the poor in their first couple games, I don't think they see the top 25 and especially not the top 10.

I went to the Alamo Bowl. Michigan was the better team, no doubt. Nebraska wanted it more. Still, how can you say Tech wasn't a top 25 team in talent? They lost to a good Alabama team by 3 points on the last play of the game, and beat OU after they had improved.

Oklahoma wasn't a national contender last year. They lost 4 games.
Texas deserved to win the game more than tOSU last year because they scored more points. Last I checked that was all that mattered.

XRay: you are still an idiot.

Well first I don't think a top 25 team should get smacked by anyone by a score of 52-17 even if they were the NChampions.

As for Bama they were a good defensive team, but not offensive. Look at a lot of their scores especially after their WR went down. They scored 80 pts. in 6 Sec games. That is an average of 12.5 pts.

They also finished at 19 and 20 in the polls and I don't think that it is out of the question if they are in the big ten that they don't lose 3 or 4 games during the regular season. They lost to Okie st. for crying out loud.

Look at the Big ten, Michigan would of won the Big XII North and they were tied for 3rd with 4 teams.

I am not saying the Big XII was horrible, they just had a log jam of teams that were maybe in the 30-50 range in terms of talent.

Heres my prediction for the game:

Finally OSU graduated Hawk, Carpenter, Whitner, Kudla, and Youboty. Now we can play some serious football, with real football players.

Pitcock(DT) occupys the entire Texas offensive line, while the other 6 players in our front 7 pretty much play in the backfield the entire game. Jenkins has 3 INTs and takes them all to the house. Freeman has 7 forced fumbles but only returns 6 of them for TDs. Our defense dominates the game so greatly that they actually give every player in the 3-deep individual Heisman trophys at halftime.

Chris Wells runs for 2,673 yards and 11 TDs. Pittman has an off-day and runs for only 823 with 6 TDs. Smith become to first quarterback in college football history to run for 4000 yards and pass for 5000 in a single game. Ginn has a total of 12 TDs and sits the last 3 quarters. The OSU offensive line dominates so much that Texas doesnt have any defensive lineman brave enough to face them.

We also get a two point conversion off of every touchdown by having Alex Boone take the snap at the 20 yard line and running straight up the middle.

No one knows the final score because the scoreboard exploded when our kicker kicked a 90 yard field goal.
