The best that can be said is that it is a neutral image--neither positive nor negative. At least it's better than clearly wimpy imagery, like the hapless Beavers and Ducks of Oregon, (who picked those names?) or the Terrapins, which I believe is some squalid form of amphibian. While not exactly inspiring fear, the Buckeye is at least puzzling to opponents. You do have to give a nod to your chief rivals, in this respect. The wolverine sounds like a pretty fierce creature, almost like a werewolf. Names that inspire fear, like Hurricanes, Red Raiders, Bears are always powerful. Names that celebrate agriculture, like Cornhuskers and Buckeyes are quaint, but too reserved to really make an impact. </TD></TR></TBODY></TABLE>

a hard shelled nut which can be poisonous... sounds fairly representative of the tOSU fan base to me.. :p

Thanks. LOL.

Damn I feel bad for North Texas... because you know Mack & co. is going to light them up like a x-mas tree to try and get those QB's a rythme or for a feel of the game... You'll see a ton of passes once the game is in hand I think to see which QB is the best GAME quarterback. They know they don't have much room for error against tosu (same for tosu, from a mistake standpoint). Absolutly going to be blowout when you play them

Texas will also play Rice and Sam Houston State as their other two non-conference opponents. The value of those games for the development of the QBs is virtually nil. Snead and McCoy face tougher secondaries against Texas's 3rd and 4th string scholarship athletes and walk-ons who are pretending to be North Texas, Rice, or Sam Houston State on the scout team.

Playing North Texas won't tell Brown, Davis & Co. anything about their QBs that they won't have already figured out by August from 7-on-7 drills.

I hope the Horns don't think the game will be a blowout. More games (and wars) have been lost to overconfidence than to anything else.

What's you definition of a blowout?

I think the game could be close if tOSU is +2 in turnovers like last year.
I'm just guessing here, but I'm pretty sure the people in giving the Betting lines for this game need to be close to make the maximum amount of money. Even if UT is favored by 3 that's not a blowout by any means. I'm also guessing, but pretty sure they know more about this game than you.

Most of all I want tOSU to win without turnovers just so you could eat some of those statements you make.
