I found this list of recruits over the past 4 year on hornfans and thought you would find it interesting since it indicates that Tressel appears to be doing the most with the least as far as Rivals rankings goes. Mack isn't far behind.

It also fits with some posts other showing that Texas has 24 Rivals top 100 players versus tOSUs 14 going into 2006. There appears to be a bit of a talent (or rankings) gap between tOSU and other top programs.

Note Out of state (OOS) for Oklahoma on this list means not from Texas.

All this means is that recruiting ratings mean shit. Hawk = 3*, Holmes = 3*, Mangold = 1*...all three were first-round draft picks, including two in the top eight picks, and they were the first, second, and first in their respective positions to be drafted.

S. Holmes had the same No. of TD receptions last year (11) as your ENTIRE receiving group did, and last I checked, He's gone. T. Ginn is great when he dosen't have a CB with speed that matches his to cover him, unfortunately for tOSU, Texas has 3 that can cover him man to man.
How many touchdown catches did the Texas wideouts have before last season started?....willing to bet you'll have to look that one up.
How'd that work out for the Longhorns last year, jackass?

what this shows is the bias towards Florida kids in their star rankings. There are also other issues with the ranking system, such as how some guys drop after they commit (depending on who they commit to)

Point 1. i'm sure you won't apply the same "logic" to your QB situation.

T. Ginn is great when he dosen't have a CB with speed that matches his to cover him, unfortunately for tOSU, Texas has 3 that can cover him man to man

Point 2. As a longhorn fan, it is your solemn duty to do everything you can, legal or otherwise, to convince Mack Brown that all of your corners can cover Ginn (and why not throw in Gonzo too) 1 on 1. He should consider himself less than a coach - nay, less than a man - if he does not endeavor to the utmost to prove you correct. Only man-to-man coverage on Ginn on every play!! it's the only way to prove you are really better!!

You have a point with Hawk and Holmes, but with Mangold...

Seems like a pretty decent to good prospect coming out of high school if you ask me.

Barton, Downing will be our best lineman next year, I believe their stars add up to 5 combined. The 7th ranked OL in 04, Mitchum, has not progressed very well at all.

OL projections are probably the hardest out of HS.

Hell our linebacker can run step for step with Ginn.

:slappy:

WTF?...Scotch anyone?...Damn, I wish our LB's were that fast... It is obvious it's the offseason when people start saying a LB, any LB, can "run" with the recievers...I hope he didn't get banned for that remark, because that is as funny as anything I will ever read on the football board...good stuff....

Agree with this completely.

There is the point that xray made that Tressel is "doing more with less"; and to some extent that's certainly true. Or at least you won't find any Buckeye fan that will argue with it, least of all me.

But then there is the one part of recruiting that means more than anything else, talent evaluation. So A.J. Hawk was a 3* recruit to the world. How many stars was he in Tressel's mind? Mangold was one-star on Scout, but Tressel thought he was worthy of a scholarship at tOSU.

I submit that one reason that the Buckeyes and the Longhorns seem to be "doing more with less" is that they are #1 and #2 in Athletic Department budget. More than anyone else, they can afford to evaluate talent for themselves and not depend on the Rivals and Scouts and Max Emfingers and Bill Kurelic(sp?)s of the world. Or maybe they're just better at it.

Stars schmars. If Tressel thinks someone is worthy of a schollie, he's a Buckeye to me.

BTW: Have you repped xray for what he's brought to the board lately?
