Game Thread Game Two: #1 Ohio State 24, #2 Texas 7 (9/9/06)

I know this is a little off topic, but something to consider when thinking about the southern speed "myth." In the Div. I track championships, the 9 fastest teams (according to previous times, as they have not raced yet) are as listed: Texas, UTEP, aggy, TCU, Houston, Tenn., Oregon, LSU, and Baylor, in no particular order. (6 teams from Texas)
Just trying to rattle the cage a little here. :)
By the way, these are the 4x100 men's relay teams

That's only because Teddy Ballgame and Gonzo opted not to run track a tOSU:biggrin:

Just because you have a phenomenal scoring percentage against a shitty defense (e.g. ND, Illinois, Minn), when most are on big plays (as big plays are more possible the shittier the defense) doesn't mean its stupid to say unless you're better at converting sustained drives and red zone opportunities, your offensive success is going to take a hit against a better defensive team.

Please do not talk to us about playing crummy defenses. Take a look at your schedule first.

That's because schools with warm weather attract better track athletes from all over the nation. It has nothing to do with where they went to high school. And it obviously has nothing to do with football.

I would fully like to talk about crummy Big 12 defenses if I was sensationalizing the Texas offense as the predominant reason why we will win games next year against our toughest opponents. Some kind of statistical backing would be important in justifying such a claim. I, however, am not claiming that on behalf of Texas. Buckeyes, on the other hand, are making that claim for their team. And that's fine. There's some justification for that, because they do have a very good offense. However, determining whether or not they have a 'great' offense as opposed to merely a good one, involves a little investigation, hence, discussion of the defenses they played, no matter how crummy, is relavent.

Sept. 9 vs. Ohio State. Yeah, yeah, yeah, Oklahoma is good again and the Red River Rivalry means everything, but the showdown against the Buckeyes might be the equivalent of the national title game. The winner will likely be number one with the inside track to Arizona.

I think that they copy/pasted this from the review last year

Beyond that, I believe there is a very real shot that the bucks and horns meet up in the bowl season as well. It would not suprise me at all to see a one loss team in the champ game this year

If the one-loss-team ranked at #2 happens to be the loser of this game; don't be surprised to see a final poll shake-up that moves the loser down a notch so that a rematch is avoided. Stranger things have happened.

why would they do that...if the first one is tight then i would think that a rematch between two of the top 3 largest draws in college football would be great. Not to mention if, tosu is fortunate enough to be the victor in sept, then the national champ game would be one hell of a rubber match....my point is that i don't know who wouldn't want to see it

Not so sure about that. Remember when Florida lost at Florida State 24-21 in the final regular season game of 1999 only to turn around and pound them 52-20 in the national title game five weeks later. If the powers-that-be allowed a five-week-old rematch, I'm sure a four-month-old rematch would be no problem.

OK, I get it...

I wasn't thinking about the UofF FSU rematch after "The Choke at Doke". I was thinking about the way CAL was dropped like a hot potato when it came BCS time a couple of years back.

Based on the precedent cited, it seems doubtful they would pull the same thing w.r.t. the NC game.

Hmmmm, suddenly I'm craving waffles.
