Game Thread Game Three: #1 Ohio State 37, Cincinnati 7 (9/16/06)

CPD

Ohio State's next opponent: Cincinnati

Sunday, September 10, 2006

The Bearcats are coming off a 33-15 loss to Pitt on Friday night that dropped them to 1-1. They'll be searching for their first win over the Buckeyes since drubbing OSU, 24-0, in 1897.

Former Ohio State defensive coordinator Mark Dantonio is in his third year as Cincinnati's coach, his record 12-13 to this point.

Cincinnati alternated quarterbacks by quarter in their season-opening win over Eastern Kentucky, but Dustin Grutzka played the majority of the game against Pitt, with Nick Davila getting snaps only early in the third quarter. Dantonio said Grutzka is his quarterback now. On the season, Grutzka has completed 30 of 50 passes for 350 yards, two touchdowns and two interceptions.

defensive rotation thus far

I understand the defensive rotation thus far? but does anybody know if the massive defensive rotation will continue or are we getting to the point where we will start to see some solidified starters that will play most of the time. My two cents, it seems like we are getting to the point where we might have some genuine starters who play most of the time.

I think the rotation continues for the time being since it has proven to work. A ton of young guys are getting valuable game experience against quality opponents' #1s, and you have to figure that with both Smith and Zwick gone this year, and probably TGII too, the team will revert to old fashioned punt-and-play-defense Tresselball while the offense grows up in 2007.

I think the starters positions will be more defined. The coaches probably know across the board who the starters will be now that they have had two games to observe. I do like playing a lot of people since it increases the quality of the teams depth. It sure didnt hurt them last nite!!!
