Game Thread Game Six: Ohio State 35, Michigan State 24 (final)

Good point bukIpower. Last year was very close, and without Ted Ginn's breakout performance we would have lost that game. Personally, I'm not going to make any predictions. We've been too inconsistent the past 2 years for that. One week we completely shatter a team, the next week we lose and half the state wants to lynch the entire coaching staff. I don't know if their defense will barely out-suck our offense for a close win or if we'll come out like we did against Iowa and put up 500+ yards and blow them out of the 'shoe.

I'm just going to root for Ohio State to win. I love watching this team play, and I just want to see these guys get it done. Win by 40 points, win ugly off 5 turnovers, win in 7 overtimes I don't care just fucking WIN. 3-3 is a realistic possibility right now. 3 and fucking 3 people, remember that feeling last year? Anyway we end up 4-2 tommorow afternoon, I'll be happy. GO BUCKS! :osu:

I almost went to bed without picking a score on this game. As much as I was worried about the Penn State game, I am equally as confident in this game. I'm serious when I say I really feel the score of this game will be...

Ohio State 41
Michigan State 17

We struggled with MSU last year and they had Damion Dowdell as their QB? I don't know if we're giving Michigan State enough credit.

...

What seperates Michigan State and Iowa is Michigan State does many screens and draws and things of that sort to slow down speedy defenses so I expect MSU to have alittle more success than Iowa.

First, we played at MSU last year, and it was before our defense gelled and before Smith had much experience. Second, name one mobile QB that has had a lot of success against our defense since Tressel has been here...Vince Young is the one with the most success and even he was held well below his usual game. Lastly, we faced a team from up north in The Shoe last year that ran and lot of draws and screens and they didn't do shit against us. Add to that the fact our defense is even better than it was at the end of last year, and we should win hands-down.

Might as well throw my two cents in. Things I'm looking for:

1. The Crowd - It's a given that the Bucks are tougher at home. What type of crowd will we see today? If the O struggles early, it will be ugly. Unfortunately, a pissed off crowd hurts the D, especially against an audibilizing passing team. We need to come out of the gate strong.
2. The Running Game - It is critical for the Bucks to stop the run. If MSU is one dimensional, Heacock's job gets easier. Offensively, if Pittman gets going early, things will open up downfield (hey, I can dream).
3. Turnovers - the D needs to create, the O needs to avoid.
4. Big Plays - I don't care if it's offense, defense, or special teams, someone for the Bucks needs to step up. A few big plays will energize everyone right now.

Huge game for both teams. There is still a lot to play for and I am of the opinion that we will be ready.

Osu wins easily if the Offense comes out and plays well. If its Groundhog Day, the fans get frustatrated, the defense is left on the field to much and the game becomes a toss-up and its up to the D to come up with the Big Play Turnover that they couldn't do last week.

Welp, it's been a long while since I have last posted, I am feeling generally "posty" so here is my two cents from a coaches perspective..albeit its just two years of HS. So here are coach Hall's keys to the game

MSU

1. Run the ball (essentially this is everyone's primary key because running offense 95% of the time sets up the passing O). If Caulcrick, Teague and the frosh slasher Ringer get going...OSU is in trouble. Caulcrick has a lot of size which COULD pose a problem for the Bucks.
2. Force TOs. Against an OSU offense that has been susceptible to coughing the ball up like a life long smoker does their lungs, the Spartans need to make Troy Smith Lydell Schnittker....I mean Brandon Schnittker and the rest of the OSU skill guys drop the ball.
3. Control the LOS on D. Two big 300 pounders up front for MSU will hinder the bucks ability to run inside, and if they can get some inside pressure Troy Smith is looking for a place to run and can't get the ball to anyone.

OSU

1. We know OSU has the ability to run the ball. So OSU's primary key against a very suspect MSU defense....PASS...DOWNFIELD. I don't know if we've seen but one pass over forty yards this season (Boeckman to Ginn vs Miami (OH) ). Please use playaction, and the downright speed of our top 3 WRs to get some passes downfield. This will in turn loosen up the MSU front so Pittman, Smith and maybe Ginn can get some rushing yards.
2. Contain Stanton. A mobile quarterback, and the best QB in the Big10, the Bucks need to get to STanton early...they may want to send someone into the locker room with a frying pan to bitch slap him before the game. OSU has seen success containing mobile QBs, so this is a big plus for the OSU defense.
3. Get Ginn rolling. Somehow, someway the Bucks need their proverbial sparkplug, shot in the arm, life force whatever you wanna call it, to get going. Ginn is a homerun hitter, regardless of what Buck Fans want to say or any other fans around the country, this young man is a playmaker. We need a couple big plays from Ginn to help the entire offense to perk up a little.

The weather for the game looks to be GREAT. AN ideal day for a gridiron battle. I think the weather helps OSU's chances of not turning the ball over, and call it a hunch (begin Lee Corso voice) but the Bucks win this one sweetheart.
